34 amps and DACs made the cut, each rated by its maker at 1 W or more into 32 ohms. That’s enough headroom for most planar magnetic headphones and inefficient dynamic models, which can play too quietly or compress at peaks from a phone or a small dongle. Every one is also rated on its SINAD as measured by Audio Science Review, so a higher rating means a cleaner unit, not just a louder one.
High impedance headphones (250 ohms and up) care more about voltage than current; check the 300 ohm figure on each card. Headphone pages on this site list each model’s impedance and sensitivity, and their cons say when a stronger amp is needed.
This is every match, grouped by type and sorted by rating.

DAC and Headphone Amp Combos
Ranked #1 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - SMSL DO400: $499.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured 123 dB SINAD, so its noise and distortion are transparent. A rated 3 W into 32 ohms and 700 mW into 300 ohms drives nearly any headphone, through 6.35 mm, 4.4 mm or 4-pin XLR outputs. Inputs cover USB, optical, coaxial, AES/EBU, I2S and LDAC Bluetooth, with RCA and XLR outputs for powered speakers.
Cons: It costs more than the D&A Alpha and SMSL RAW-MDA1, which share its rating and also measure transparent. At 1,450 g it is a full size desktop unit.

Ranked #2 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - D&A Alpha: $399.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured 122 dB SINAD, so its noise and distortion are transparent. A rated 9 W balanced into 32 ohms and 1.1 W into 300 ohms is enough for nearly any headphone, planar magnetics included, and it adds optical, coaxial and LDAC Bluetooth inputs with XLR line outputs for powered speakers. It matches the rating of the SMSL DO400 for less.
Cons: It is a large, heavy desktop box at 1,650 g, so it is no fit for a cramped desk or travel. The Topping DX5 II rates the same with similarly huge balanced power for less, and the 9 W figure applies only to the 4.4 mm balanced output.

Ranked #3 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - SMSL RAW-MDA1: $279.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured 122 dB SINAD, so its noise and distortion are transparent. A rated 1.7 W into 32 ohms drives nearly any headphone including planar magnetics, and it has two optical and two coaxial inputs plus USB and LDAC Bluetooth. It matches the rating of the SMSL DO400 for much less.
Cons: The maker doesn’t publish a 300 ohm power figure. Bluetooth lacks AAC, and the Topping DX1 II rates the same with ample balanced power for far less if you don’t need its extra inputs.

Ranked #4 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Topping DX5 II: $299.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 122 dB, so its noise and distortion are inaudible. A rated 6.4 W into 32 ohms and 990 mW into 300 ohms is enough for nearly any headphone, through 6.35 mm, 4.4 mm and 4 pin XLR outputs. It adds a 10 band parametric EQ, Bluetooth with LDAC and aptX Adaptive, and RCA and XLR line outputs, matching the rating of the SMSL DO400 for less.
Cons: The Topping DX1 II shares its rating for well under half the price and still delivers about 1 W into 32 ohms, which is plenty for most headphones. Its full size chassis takes more desk space than compact all in ones.

Ranked #5 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - D&A Alpha Pro: $699.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 121 dB, so its noise and distortion are inaudible. A rated 6,000 mW into 32 ohms and 700 mW into 300 ohms will drive nearly any headphone, including demanding planars, through 6.35 mm, 4.4 mm balanced or 4-pin XLR outputs. It doubles as a full desktop hub with USB, optical, coaxial, RCA and Bluetooth inputs (LDAC, aptX HD, AAC) plus RCA and XLR outputs.
Cons: It costs far more than the Topping DX1 II, which rates the same and measures the same 121 dB SINAD. The SMSL DO400 also matches its rating for less while measuring slightly cleaner. At 1,760 g and 225 mm wide, it needs real desk space.

Ranked #6 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Topping DX1 II: $119.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 121 dB, so its noise and distortion are inaudible. A rated 1,000 mW into 32 ohms from the 4.4 mm balanced output handles most planar magnetic headphones, and a 10-band parametric EQ and a 3.5 mm headset jack with mic support are included. It rates the same as the D&A Alpha Pro for a fraction of the cost.
Cons: Inputs are limited to USB-C and optical, with no coaxial or Bluetooth. Its 230 mW into 300 ohms is modest beside the Topping DX5 II, which rates the same with far more power but costs more. No volume knob is listed.

Ranked #7 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Topping G5: $299.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 120 dB, so its noise and distortion are inaudible. A rated 1,200 mW into 32 ohms is unusual for a battery unit and handles most planars, with 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm balanced outputs. It runs about 9 hours on USB, 10 on Bluetooth with LDAC and aptX Adaptive, and 25 as an analog amp, and weighs 265 g.
Cons: Its 175 mW into 300 ohms limits headroom with high-impedance headphones. The Topping DX1 II rates the same and measures slightly cleaner for much less, though it is not portable. At 140 mm long and 18 mm thick, it suits a bag better than a pocket.

Ranked #8 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - SMSL DL100: $152.99 Apos Audio eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured 119 dB SINAD, so its noise and distortion are inaudible. A rated 1.5 W into 32 ohms handles most planar magnetic headphones, with 6.35 mm and 4.4 mm balanced outputs plus RCA and XLR line outs for powered speakers. Inputs include USB-C, optical, coaxial, HDMI ARC and Bluetooth with LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC, and a remote controls volume.
Cons: The Topping DX5 II earns the same rating and publishes far more balanced power, though it costs more. The Topping DX1 II shares the same rating for less if you do not need the extra inputs. Its 1.5 W rating is enough for most headphones but short of the several watts some rivals offer.

Ranked #9 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - JDS Labs Element IV: $549.00 JDS Labs eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 118 dB, so the DAC and amp are transparent. A rated 3,200 mW into 32 ohms drives nearly any headphone, and a built in 12 band parametric equalizer lets you correct headphone response without software. It takes USB-C and optical inputs and has RCA outputs for powered speakers.
Cons: It has no balanced headphone output, and the 4.4 mm jack is only available as a build option replacing the 6.35 mm jack. The Topping DX5 II rates higher with more rated balanced power for less.

Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 117 dB, so its noise and distortion are inaudible. Topping rates it at 1,800 mW into 32 ohms, enough for most planar magnetic headphones, and it accepts USB, optical, coaxial and Bluetooth with SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD and LDAC, plus an RCA line output.
Cons: There is no balanced headphone output, only a 6.35 mm jack. The Topping DX5 II rates higher, measured cleaner and is rated at far more balanced power for a bit more.

Ranked #11 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Aune X1s GT: $319.00 Aune official store eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured 114 dB SINAD, which keeps noise and distortion clean for nearly all listening. Aune rates it at 1,200 mW into 32 ohms from the 4.4 mm balanced jack, enough for most planar magnetic headphones, and it takes USB, optical and coaxial inputs plus an external 10 MHz clock. RCA line and preamp outputs let it feed powered speakers too.
Cons: It costs more than the Topping DX3 Pro+, which rates the same with higher measured SINAD and more rated power. The SMSL RAW-MDA1 rates higher for less, and there is no Bluetooth input.

Ranked #12 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Fosi Audio ZH3: $199.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 113 dB, clean for nearly all listening. A rated 2,570 mW into 32 ohms from the balanced output handles most planar magnetic headphones, with 6.35 mm and 4.4 mm balanced jacks. USB, optical, coaxial and RCA inputs plus RCA and XLR outputs let it double as a preamp, and bass and treble controls are built in.
Cons: The Topping DX1 II rates higher and measures cleaner at 121 dB for less money, though with less rated power. It has no Bluetooth input, and its SINAD trails most of the top-rated units in this group.

Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 112 dB, clean for nearly all listening. It has USB, two optical, two coaxial and two analog inputs, RCA and XLR outputs, and a motorized volume knob with remote control. Its headphone outputs are rated for 1,250 mW into 30 ohms, enough for most planar magnetic headphones.
Cons: It costs many times more than the Topping DX3 Pro+, which rates higher and measures cleaner. The two headphone jacks are both 6.35 mm, so there is no balanced headphone output.

Ranked #15 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - SPL Phonitor x: $3,200.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 111 dB, clean for nearly all listening. It is rated for 1,000 mW into 32 ohms from the 6.35 mm jack and 700 mW from its 4-pin XLR balanced output, enough for most planar magnetic headphones. It adds XLR and RCA inputs and outputs, a motorized volume knob and a learnable IR remote.
Cons: Its USB, coaxial and optical inputs require an optional DAC module, so digital playback costs extra. It costs far more than the JDS Labs Element IV, which rates higher, measures cleaner and has more rated power.

Ranked #18 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Chord DAVE: $14,900.00 Audio46 eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 110 dB, so noise and distortion stay clean for nearly all listening. Chord rates it at 1,400 mW into 33 ohms, enough for most planar magnetic headphones, and it doubles as a full DAC preamp with USB, four coaxial, two optical and AES/EBU inputs plus RCA and XLR outputs. A remote and digital volume control make it easy to run as the hub of a desktop or speaker system.
Cons: It costs vastly more than the Fosi Audio ZH3, which rates higher and measured cleaner in Audio Science Review’s tests. Its only headphone jack is a single 6.35 mm socket with no balanced headphone output, and at 5 kg it is a large desktop unit.

Ranked #19 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Schiit Magni Unity with Mesh DAC: $239.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 109 dB with the Mesh DAC fitted, clean enough that noise and distortion stay out of the way for nearly all listening. Schiit rates it at 2.5 W into 32 ohms and 415 mW into 300 ohms, enough for power hungry planar magnetic and high impedance headphones, and its RCA preamp outputs can also feed powered speakers.
Cons: There are no balanced outputs and the only digital input is USB-C, with no optical, coaxial or Bluetooth. The Topping DX3 Pro+ rates higher for less and adds those extra inputs.

Ranked #25 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Gustard A20H: $752 HiFiGo eBay
Pros: A rated 2.4 W balanced into 32 ohms and 264 mW into 300 ohms is enough for planar magnetic and high impedance headphones alike. Inputs include USB, I2S over HDMI, AES/EBU, coaxial and optical, with RCA and XLR line outputs and a 60 step relay volume control. Audio Science Review measured 103 dB SINAD, clean enough for nearly all listening.
Cons: Its 103 dB SINAD trails many cheaper rivals, and the Tanchjim Luna rates higher with cleaner measurements for a small fraction of the price. There is no Bluetooth input, and at 6 kg it is a very large and heavy unit for what it delivers.

Ranked #35 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - xDuoo XA-10: $479.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: It is a very flexible DAC and amp with USB, optical, coaxial and Bluetooth inputs, and Bluetooth supports SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD and LDAC. A rated 4,000 mW into 32 ohms from the balanced outputs drives nearly any headphone, and it offers 6.35 mm, 4.4 mm and 4-pin XLR headphone jacks.
Cons: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 90 dB, which is fine for most headphones but may reveal hiss or noise with sensitive in-ear monitors. The Loxjie D40 rates higher and measures far cleaner for less. The rated power figure applies to the balanced outputs, so the 6.35 mm jack delivers less.

Pros: Audio Science Review measured 121 dB SINAD, so its noise and distortion are inaudible. Topping rates it at 5,500 mW into 32 ohms and 840 mW into 300 ohms, enough power for nearly any headphone, with 6.35 mm, 4-pin XLR and 4.4 mm balanced outputs plus RCA and XLR inputs. Pass-through outputs let it sit in a chain ahead of speakers.
Cons: It is an analog only amp with no USB or other digital input, so you need a separate DAC. The Topping A50 III rates the same with the same measured SINAD for less.

Pros: Chord rates it at 2,100 mW into 32 ohms and 281 mW into 300 ohms, enough for most planar magnetic headphones and high impedance models alike. It has 6.35 mm, 4.4 mm balanced and 4-pin XLR balanced headphone outputs, plus RCA, XLR and 4.4 mm inputs and RCA and XLR outputs for use as a preamp.
Cons: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of only 85 dB, a real audible weakness, especially with sensitive headphones. It costs far more than the Sennheiser HDV 820, which rates higher and measured much cleaner, and its inputs are all analog, so you need a separate DAC for digital sources.

Ranked #17 of 19 in Headphone Amplifiers - Fosi Audio SK01: $79.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: A rated 2,400 mW into 32 ohms gives plenty of drive for most headphones, including many planars, from 3.5 mm and 6.35 mm outputs. Bass, mid and treble tone controls let you adjust the balance without software. It is compact at 121 mm wide and costs little.
Cons: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of only 85 dB, a real audible weakness that can show up as noise or hiss, especially with sensitive in-ears. It accepts only a 3.5 mm analog input, so it needs a separate source and has no balanced output. The Loxjie D30 rates higher and measures far cleaner for a little more.
