Every Tribit Speaker Ranked

This page lists all 17 Tribit speakers ranked on this site, each showing where it places in its category. Tribit is portable-only, with no home speakers or subwoofers.

No brand here has a better price-to-performance record. The Stormbox Micro 2 tops the 45-speaker small class at $50. The Stormbox Blast places second in a 68-speaker boombox class at $180. The Stormbox Lava places third among 75 large speakers at $100, with bass extension to 44 Hz that costs three times as much elsewhere. Not one Tribit in the store is marked discontinued.

What you are not paying for. Tribit has no design language worth the name, no premium finish, and no ecosystem. There is no multi-room platform, no lifestyle marketing, and resale value is negligible. The speakers are plastic boxes that measure extremely well for the money, and that is the entire proposition.

Where the compromises show. The DSP is the weak point across the line. The Stormbox Micro 3 ships with thuddy, distorted bass that needs an EQ to fix. The original Stormbox Micro gets murky near maximum volume. The Blast lacks a little detail against the best in other size classes and has a dip at 5.5 kHz, and its ranking assumes a reviewer EQ — without one it would sit around fourth. As with Soundcore, these are speakers that reward opening the app, and every entry whose ranking depends on it says so in its cons with the preset linked.

Practical notes. Tribit is IPX7 or better across most of the line, aux inputs are common where competitors have dropped them, and battery life is consistently at or above the class average.

Many of the speakers below depend on an EQ preset to reach their ranked position. All the published presets are collected on the EQ presets page.

Tribit Portable Bluetooth Speakers

Ranked #1 of 45 in Small Size Portable Bluetooth SpeakersTribit Stormbox Micro 2: $34.19 Aliexpress Amazon

Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 ranking card

Pros: Best in class sound. Much deeper bass than most other speakers in the size. Built in strap is super useful for attaching it to things. Very neutral. To have it aimed directly at you unclip the strap and the speaker will sit upright with a slight lean back.

Cons: Finicky phone charging, which doesn’t usually work.

Setup: Use in Music EQ mode, when you switch to custom it’s not able to boost the bass properly as it is missing an EQ band that Music EQ mode uses

Tribit Stormbox Micro ranking card

Pros: Quite neutral. Slight hollowness in the mids. Built in strap is super useful for attaching it to things. Highly recommend spending the extra $10 for the Micro 2 which goes louder and deeper. To have it aimed directly at you unclip the strap and the speaker will sit upright with a slight lean back.

Cons: Gets murky and slightly sharp near max volume; boosted bass distorts when pushed loud. Down-firing passive radiator needs a flat surface underneath or the bass gets muffled.

Pros: Deepest bass of any medium size speaker. Use xbass mode for flattest frequency response.

Cons: Single driver, not stereo. Lack of detail. Lack of upper treble, peaky lower treble. Not great off axis. Keep in mind this speaker gives up some sound quality for deeper bass.

Ranked #49 of 133 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth SpeakersTribit Stormbox Flow: $60 Amazon

Tribit Stormbox Flow ranking card

Pros: Up to 30 hours of battery life - roughly double most rivals (~20-24 hrs with XBass on). IP67 rated with a loose handle for carrying/hanging. Pairs with a second Flow for stereo; USB-C port charges your phone too.

Cons: Not stereo. Midrange and bass are weirdly recessed about 4db below 700hz. You need xbass mode for it to not sound like a clock radio with missing bass. You also can’t turn up the bass enough in the custom EQ modes to get it neutral, so it will sound bass light. Firmware 1.2.3 fixes the distortion issues with xbass mode on, but bass still sounds wobbly and uncontrolled.

Pros: IPX7 water resistant, dual pairing for stereo setup, excellent battery life (20 hours), instant on/off buttons, 97dB max volume

Cons: Muffled sounding, treble dips from 5khz-12khz. Listening from the front is the worst frequency response, lay it down facing up with xbass off for the smoothest response. Not technically a 360 speaker, only front and rear.

Tribit Stormbox Lava ranking card

Pros: Fantastic bass extension. Goes deeper than the Boom 2 as seen in the linked video of sound samples. Firmware 2.0.0 is a big improvement in neutrality.

Cons: Quite heavy for the size. Some bass boost way down low. Treble and upper mids have some peaks.

Setup: Try out the Alan Ross EQ’s at this timestamp in his video There’s also a max bass EQ from Oluv and you can turn down the lowest slider for it to be more neutral

Ranked #2 of 68 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth SpeakersTribit Stormbox Blast: $179.99 Amazon

Tribit Stormbox Blast ranking card

Pros: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off.

Cons: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5khz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.

Pros: Pretty deep bass.

Cons: Sounds quite muddy with the boosted lower and upper bass. Boosted treble around 6khz. Xbass mode makes it sound even more muddy. Nowhere near as neutral and balanced as the first Blast and a big downgrade unless you only care about max volume
