Coverage note. Speaker Ranking currently covers 30 SVS models across passive speakers and subwoofers. These are the products in our database, not a complete list of everything SVS makes.

This page lists all 30 SVS subwoofers ranked on this site, each showing where it places in its size class. Every one is ranked on CEA-2010-A, a standardized burst test of how loud a subwoofer plays each bass frequency before distortion becomes audible.

SVS is the default recommendation in home audio subwoofers, and mostly deserves it. The SB-1000 Pro tops the small class outright. The range covers roughly $500 to $2,200 with consistent measured performance, a real warranty, a generous trial period, and support that actually answers.

Read the model names and you have the whole catalogue. SB is sealed: smaller cabinet, gentler roll-off, better suited to music and to rooms whose gain does the deep work for you. PB is ported: the same driver and amplifier producing several dB more output in the 20-40 Hz band that movies use, in a much larger box. The number is the series, ascending with size and output. Pro adds the app, parametric EQ and room correction, which is worth having.

Where SVS is beaten: raw output per dollar. Monoprice and the direct-order boutiques deliver more measured bass for the money, sometimes substantially more. What SVS sells alongside the subwoofer is finish, app quality, dealer support and resale value. Whether that is worth the premium is a real question rather than a rhetorical one, and the budget subwoofer picks show what the alternative looks like.

Pros: Reasonable sensitivity for the price at about 87dB, and the 6.5” woofer sits in its own dedicated sealed sub-compartment inside the cabinet for cleaner midrange/bass separation. Overall response stays within about ±3dB from 80Hz-16kHz, which the reviewer calls reasonable for the price point. Wide, consistent horizontal radiation. Toeing the speakers 30 degrees off-axis smooths the in-room response noticeably if the on-axis tonal balance isn’t to your taste. Measured bass extension of 72Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 87dB.

Cons: A scooped mid-range paired with a boosted upper mid-range creates an audibly uneven tonal balance, and there’s an additional dip in the treble around 4-5kHz that reads as slightly tinny relative to the recessed mid-range. Measured minimum impedance dips below 4 ohms (EPDR even lower), so an 8-ohm-only amplifier or AVR may struggle - a 4-ohm-stable amp or separate amplification is recommended. Bass extension is modest (F3 72Hz, F10 49Hz measured) - SVS clearly designed this to be paired with one of their subwoofers rather than to stand fully alone. Compared directly against its pricier sibling, the SVS Ultra Bookshelf, in the same review, the reviewer found the Ultra noticeably more tonally neutral.

Pros: Flagship three-way tower with a diamond-coated tweeter, dual midranges and four force-balanced 8-inch woofers. Erin measured exceptional 27Hz extension, broad roughly +/-75-degree horizontal coverage, an 88.1dB sensitivity and a 4.03 preference score even without a subwoofer.

Cons: The 5.25-to-8-inch transitions and complex array do not produce class-leading smoothness: 0.184 on-axis, 0.226 predicted in-room and 3.64 directivity-index consistency. At 96.7 pounds each, these are difficult to position, and their Q of 1.25 indicates some bass emphasis.

Pros: Independent CEA-2010 testing records 90.6 dB at 20 Hz and 113.5 dB through 40-80 Hz. The sealed enclosure with 2x 8” (203mm) driver delivers substantial upper-bass output for movie effects and music.

Cons: Deep-bass output is more limited than the strong 40-80 Hz result suggests, so it is not the right choice when the lowest movie effects are the priority. The 276.9H x 297.2W x 271.8D mm cabinet and 10.2 kg mass still require deliberate placement and calibration.

Pros: Noticeably more tonally neutral than the cheaper SVS Prime Bookshelf, with response staying within about -3dB/+1.5dB on average - a genuine step up in linearity for roughly double the price. Slightly higher sensitivity than the Prime (about 87.8dB) with similarly wide, consistent horizontal radiation. Toeing the speakers out about 30 degrees smooths the in-room response nicely if the on-axis tonal balance runs a bit forward for your taste. Distortion and dynamics hold up well; this is a mature, well-regarded design (roughly a decade old at review time) that’s aged better than many contemporaries. Measured bass extension of 69Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 87.8dB.

Cons: Still has a boosted upper mid-range/mid-range area, though less severe than the Prime - the reviewer suspects a baffle-step or tweeter-level issue rather than a resonance, giving mixes a slightly forward, occasionally tinny character. Bass extension is modest for the price (F3 69Hz, F10 48Hz measured) - SVS is clearly counting on you pairing this with one of their subwoofers rather than expecting full-range performance from the bookshelf alone. Measured minimum impedance dips to about 3.8 ohms, so a 4-ohm-stable amplifier is recommended rather than a basic 8-ohm-only AVR. Radiation pattern is wide (around 80°), wider than the reviewer’s typical ~60° sweet spot preference, so acoustic treatment on nearby walls helps tame reflections and keep the off-axis response from diverging too much from on-axis. Discontinued; SVS replaced the Ultra line with the Ultra Evolution series. Discontinued.

Pros: Independent CEA-2010 testing records 114.6 dB at 20 Hz and 125.8 dB (avg of 3/4 bands) through 40-80 Hz. The ported, bottom enclosure with 13.5” (343mm) driver has the headroom for demanding film bass in a large room.

Cons: The 1168.4H x 421.6W x 421.6D mm cabinet and 40.8 kg mass make this a serious placement and moving commitment. Ported output does not solve room modes, so careful placement and calibration remain essential. Discontinued.
