This page ranks 13 outdoor speakers evaluated by independent acoustic measurements. Unlike indoor bookshelf speakers, outdoor models are built to survive temperature swings, humidity, and direct precipitation with UV-resistant cabinets, sealed or treated enclosures, and rust-resistant aluminum or stainless steel grilles.
Most outdoor speakers are passive designs that require outdoor-rated speaker wire running back to a home amplifier or multi-zone receiver, while self-contained active models include their own built-in amplification. Because outdoor listening has no room boundary reinforcement, bass extension and directivity control are critical for clean sound across a patio or backyard.
