Short answer: the Micro 2, unless you specifically need the battery life. The Micro 2 is still the top-ranked small speaker on this site; the Micro 3 sits at #6 in the same 45-speaker class and costs $15 more.
Why the newer one ranks lower. The Micro 3 ships with thuddy, distorted bass out of the box that needs an EQ preset to fix. The hardware is capable — bass extension is actually slightly better at 62 Hz against the Micro 2’s 65 Hz, output is up from 10 W to 13 W, and it adds AAC alongside SBC — but the default DSP tuning squanders it. With a good EQ loaded the two are much closer than the rankings suggest. Out of the box they are not close.
What the Micro 3 genuinely wins on: battery. 24 hours against 12 is a doubling, and if you take a speaker camping or leave it in a bag for a week that is a real quality-of-life difference. It also moves to IP68 from IP67, which in practice means very little since both survive submersion.
Both keep the thing that makes this line good: the integrated strap, which is the most useful design feature on any small speaker here, and lets the speaker clip to a bike, a bag or a shower rail, or sit upright leaning slightly back when unclipped.
Buy the Micro 2 for the best small-speaker sound per dollar, especially at $50.
Buy the Micro 3 if you will load an EQ preset and want double the runtime.

The Two Speakers In Full
Tribit Stormbox Micro 2: $34.19 Aliexpress Amazon
Pros: Best in class sound. Much deeper bass than most other speakers in the size. Built in strap is super useful for attaching it to things. Very neutral. To have it aimed directly at you unclip the strap and the speaker will sit upright with a slight lean back.
Cons: Finicky phone charging, which doesn’t usually work.
Setup: Use in Music EQ mode, when you switch to custom it’s not able to boost the bass properly as it is missing an EQ band that Music EQ mode uses

Pros: Deeper bass than the last one by a little
Cons: Thuddy distorted bass by default, needs an EQ to fix. Hopefully Tribit fixes this in the DSP with an update. Treble
