Coverage note. Speaker Ranking currently covers 25 Monoprice models across powered speakers and subwoofers. These are the products in our database, not a complete list of everything Monoprice makes.

This page currently includes Monoprice powered speakers and subwoofers. Each model is shown in the category where it competes; the subwoofer positions use CEA-2010-A burst measurements.

Among the Monoprice products measured here, its subwoofers are the value benchmark. The SW-15 costs about $375 and out-measures subwoofers at three times the price. The Monolith line goes considerably further: the M-15 V2 and M-215 deliver deep output that competes with boutique designs costing several times more. None of the Monoprice subwoofers currently in this catalog is marked discontinued, which is unusual for a value brand.

Where the money was saved. Cabinet finish is vinyl rather than veneer, panels are thinner and less braced than the boutique competition, and the control set is basic: level, crossover, phase, and not much else. There is no app, no parametric EQ and no room correction on the cheaper models. If you set the crossover on your receiver, which you should, most of that hardly matters.

Two names, one brand. Plain Monoprice models (SW-12, SW-15, Premium Select) are the budget line. Monolith is the serious line, and the M-series competes on output with anything mainstream.

The best use of a Monoprice budget is two subwoofers. Two subs in different positions average out room modes and flatten response across every seat, which is a larger improvement than anything you can buy by spending the same money on one better cabinet. Pros: With the ports plugged, Erin’s Klippel data yields preference scores of 3.21 standalone and 5.63 with an ideal subwoofer, and a measured -3dB point around 62Hz. The reviewer found blocking the ports improved the bass peak and midrange resonances. Bluetooth, analog inputs, a headphone jack and angled stands provide a convenient compact desktop package.

Cons: These measurements describe modified, port-plugged speakers, not the stock product. Even in that configuration the review identifies substantial tonal problems and recommends off-axis placement to reduce excess treble. The score therefore does not justify ranking the stock MM-3 alongside better-balanced monitors. Small drivers limit its application, and the proprietary inter-speaker cable complicates replacement.

Pros: An inexpensive, compact powered pair with front volume control, auxiliary input and headphone output. Erin’s Klippel measurements put the -3dB bass point around 74Hz, sufficient for some upper-bass content at a desk.

Cons: The measured response spans 7.6dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, with large irregularities both on-axis and across the listening window. Preference scores are -0.17 standalone and only 2.76 with an ideal subwoofer, the weakest comparable result in this group. That means adding bass support does not remove its major tonal problems. It offers little reason to choose it for accurate listening over better-measuring budget alternatives.

Pros: A compact 9kg, ported 8-inch subwoofer with THX certification that can suit a small room or satellite-based system without taking much floor space. Measured output is useful through the upper bass: 99.3dB at 50Hz, 100.7dB at 63Hz and 101.6dB at 80Hz. Its selectable THX/EQ modes provide a more controlled option for music than the extended setting.

Cons: Deep-bass output is modest for a home-theater subwoofer, falling to 72.9dB at 20Hz and 86.1dB at 25Hz. It will not deliver the infrasonic impact or room-filling output of a larger model, and the manufacturer lists it as out of stock. Choose it for compactness and moderate listening levels, not for demanding cinema effects.

Pros: Published CEA-2010 specifications list 112.6 dB at 20 Hz and 120.0 dB through 40-80 Hz. Its front-ported 15-inch design has substantial deep-bass and midbass headroom for cinema playback.

Cons: Discontinued and no longer sold new. At 60.3 kg and 729.0H x 449.6W x 680.7D mm, it needs committed floor space and careful room integration. Discontinued.
