Short answer: the Chord Hugo 2 for better measured performance, the Woo Audio WA11 Topaz for the lower price. The Chord Hugo 2 ranks #17 of 43 DAC and headphone amp combos, rated 4.5/5, at $2,595. The Woo Audio WA11 Topaz ranks #27, rated 4.1/5, at $1,099, $1,496 cheaper.
The Chord Hugo 2 is the better-sounding option. Audio Science Review measured 112 dB SINAD, clean for nearly all listening, and Chord rates it at 740 mW into 32 ohms, enough for most planar magnetic headphones. The catch: It costs far more than the SMSL DS20, which rates the same and measured higher SINAD.
Why pick the Woo Audio WA11 Topaz: It is a portable DAC and headphone amp with a 6 hour battery, USB-C and 4.4 mm balanced analog inputs, and 6.35 mm and 4.4 mm balanced headphone outputs. Watch for: The Khadas Tone2 Pro rates higher and measured cleaner in Audio Science Review’s tests for a small fraction of the price.
Buy the Chord Hugo 2 if measured performance is the priority over the price, or the Woo Audio WA11 Topaz if the price is the priority over measured performance.
