The Sony XB23 is the better-sounding, louder choice. Reasonably neutral. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 95dB at full volume, against 88dB for the Marshall Emberton II. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Marshall Emberton II lacks. The catch: Bass drops off a ton at high levels.
The Marshall Emberton II is the longer-running, tougher pick. 30 hour battery life: among the best in its class; a 20 min quick-charge gives 4 hours. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 12 for the Sony XB23. It is rated IP67 against IPX4 for the Sony XB23. The tradeoff: Strange unnatural echo-like sound coloration, bass not as deep as competitors.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 1, the replacement for the discontinued Sony XB23; it is rated higher for sound quality than the Marshall Emberton II.
