Short answer: the Minirig 4. It ranks #7 of 164 medium speakers by sound quality (rated 4.3/5) at $229.95 and is still sold new; the Sony XB23 ranks #83 (rated 3.3/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used.
The Minirig 4 is the better-sounding, deeper-bass option. Modular, can easily attach a subwoofer. Its bass reaches about 56Hz before falling 10dB, against 67Hz for the Sony XB23. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 106dB at full volume, against 95dB for the Sony XB23. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 12 for the Sony XB23. Watch for: Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating.
What the Sony XB23 does well: Reasonably neutral. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Minirig 4 lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Minirig 4. The catch: Bass drops off a ton at high levels.
Buy the Minirig 4. It is rated higher for sound quality; the Sony XB23 is no longer sold new.
