The JBL Charge 5 is the better-sounding choice. Doubles as a power bank (USB-A out) for charging your phone. It links with other speakers (PartyBoost up to 100 speakers), which the Tribit Stormbox 2 cannot. The tradeoff: Shouty upper mids.
The Tribit Stormbox 2 is the lighter option. A little better sounding than the original Tribit Stormbox, less of a rolled off treble. At 1.3 lbs (593 g) it weighs much less than the JBL Charge 5 at 2.1 lbs (960 g). It keeps a wired aux input, which the JBL Charge 5 lacks. Watch for: Drivers on the side, so it will have a rolled off treble listening to it face on.
Buy the JBL Charge 5. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $44.96 you would save on the Tribit Stormbox 2 does not close the gap.
