B&O Beosound 2 vs B&O Beosound Balance

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Short answer: the B&O Beosound 2. It ranks #7 of 10 powered desktop speakers by sound quality, rated 3.7/5, at $4,000. The B&O Beosound Balance ranks #10, rated 2.4/5, at $3,300, $700 cheaper, a saving that is not big enough to make up the sound-quality gap.

B&O Beosound 2 vs B&O Beosound Balance

The B&O Beosound 2 is the better-sounding choice. A beautifully made, compact Wi-Fi speaker with omnidirectional playback, Chromecast, AirPlay, Bluetooth with AAC/aptX, optical and aux inputs, app EQ, voice control and Beolink multiroom. It keeps a wired aux input, which the B&O Beosound Balance lacks. The tradeoff: Its bass-forward balance can recess the mids, and its 94dB maximum level is modest for a speaker intended to fill larger spaces.

The B&O Beosound Balance is the deeper-bass option. A Wi-Fi smart speaker with a wood base and seven drivers: two 5.25” woofers, four full-range drivers and a 3/4” tweeter, with 850W of amplification and a choice of directional or room-filling sound. Its bass reaches about 37.7Hz before falling 10dB, against 45Hz for the B&O Beosound 2. The tradeoff: Audio Science Review found a very uneven response, for a preference score of only 0.39 that reaches 2.59 with an ideal subwoofer, so its sound does not match its price.

Buy the B&O Beosound 2. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $700 saving on the B&O Beosound Balance is not enough to make up the difference.

Same family: the B&O Beosound 1 (smaller model, rated 3.5/5).

Pros: A beautifully made, compact Wi-Fi speaker with omnidirectional playback, Chromecast, AirPlay, Bluetooth with AAC/aptX, optical and aux inputs, app EQ, voice control and Beolink multiroom. Reviews praise its even scaling at low volume, spacious room-filling presentation and convincing bass for a single 4.1kg enclosure. Measured bass extension of ~45Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Its bass-forward balance can recess the mids, and its 94dB maximum level is modest for a speaker intended to fill larger spaces. There is no battery or water rating, so this is a mains-powered indoor product; its luxury design and streaming feature set matter more than outright value or neutral hi-fi accuracy.
