Every Speaker With aptX Bluetooth Support

Last updated: September 3, 2026

44 ranked speakers support some form of aptX, Qualcomm’s codec family, including every speaker below regardless of which specific variant it lists. Both ends of the connection need aptX support to actually use it - most iPhones don’t have it at all, so this matters mainly if you’re pairing from an Android phone or a Qualcomm-based source.

For a specific variant, see aptX HD (higher bitrate) or aptX Adaptive (variable bitrate for stability) - no ranked speaker currently supports aptX Lossless, Qualcomm’s newest and rarest variant. See Bluetooth codecs explained for why codec choice matters far less on a speaker than on headphones, and what actually does move the needle.

Pros: IP67 rated, survives a 1m dunk for 30 minutes. Compact fabric strap for clipping to bags/bikes - replaces the 1st-gen’s hook clip, which was prone to breaking. USB-C charging. Surprisingly good bass when mounted outdoors, like on a bike.

Cons: Lack of clarity. Overly boosted bass that causes some thudding, and can overdrive/distort at higher volumes - worse in this regard than the 1st-gen model. Overly boosted treble, turn down bass and treble in the EQ. Falls clearly behind the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 on bass depth, cleanliness, and loudness.

Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers

Ranked #3 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers, last listed at $79.99 - Soundcore Motion+: $79.99 used, Discontinued Amazon eBay

Soundcore Motion+ ranking card

Pros: The previous best sounding in class, still a great speaker with separate tweeters, more bass at full volume and better off-axis treble frequency response than the Uboom L. Just okay with the default EQ, I highly recommend using this EQ setting from r/kai7895 to get it more neutral. To achieve the absolute best sound you’ll need the Wavelet app (Android only) and set the provided Wavelet EQ in there too. Turn off the wavelet EQ for outdoor use. An alternative is Oluv’s EQ which only needs the Soundcore app EQ.

Cons: Not quite as neutral or detailed as the Uboom L. Without the above EQ, this speaker will rank around #25 in the rankings. Discontinued.

Pros: One of the early Bluetooth speakers with excellent all-around sound quality, very neutral and great soundstage. Deep bass without distortion at high volumes. IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating. USB charging port charges mobile devices. Built-in stand on back for sturdy tilted positioning.

Cons: Expensive. Treble is rolled off. Phantom battery drain issue, would not recommend these days. Uses some stereo enhancement reverb that can sound weird to some. Not as detailed as higher ranked speakers. Discontinued.

KEF Muo gen2 ranking card

Pros: KEF seemed to have fixed the rolled off treble and overall balance

Cons: Lacking deeper bass. Very thuddy bass. Appears to be the exact same hardware but with updated tuning. Bass distorts as volume increases, and the claimed 43Hz extension is really only audible at low listening volumes, with a few seconds of lag after volume changes. Loses most of its bass off-axis. Customer reviews are mixed, ranging from praise for detail at low volume to complaints of a boxy, hollow sound.

Ranked #1 of 77 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers, last listed at $449.00 - Vifa Helsinki: $449.00 Amazon eBay

Vifa Helsinki ranking card

Pros: Generally regarded as the best midrange and treble sound quality of any battery powered Bluetooth speaker.

Cons: No TWS pairing, looks like a purse, requires a hacked Vifa app (Android only post #48) to enable night mode to sound good. Not sure I can recommend this one generally these days, the Uboom L has 98% of the sound quality with more features and a way cheaper price. There are mentions that the 2022 “new” version of this speaker doesn’t sound as good as Vifa was purchased by a Chinese company and laid off all the great sound engineers in the Austria office.

Cons: Dip at 270hz. The Vifa Helsinki is cheaper and generally has a more neutral frequency response, I’d highly recommend getting one of those instead if you specifically want a Vifa. Pros: Pretty neutral frequency response. More vocal/midrange-focused than the JBL Xtreme 4, thanks to a larger mid/bass driver - better suited to rock and jazz. Nicer upper-bass detail than the JBL Xtreme 4. Punchy, well-controlled bass that suits rock music, unlike the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus’s overboosted, uncontrolled bass even at stock tuning. Clear, detailed audio with good vocal presence and solid Bluetooth codec support even a couple years after release.

Cons: Outdoor mode can sound somewhat harsh due to the 4khz peak. Not as deep or full-sounding in the bass as the JBL Xtreme 4.

Ranked #13 of 51 in Party Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers, last listed at $499.99 - Teufel Rockster Air 2: $499.99 Amazon eBay

Teufel Rockster Air 2 ranking card

Pros: More consistent off-axis sound than the JBL Partybox 130, thanks to its single horn-loaded compression driver. Projects sound more evenly to the sides, unlike the JBL’s narrower front-firing dispersion. Cleaner instrument separation at high volume than the JBL Partybox 130, which turns anemic and loses bass at max volume despite its bass boost.

Cons: Bass isn’t as deep as the JBL Partybox 130’s boosted bass, though the JBL’s is boomy rather than truly deep. Bass and treble aren’t perfectly controlled at maximum volume - can sound hollow or too bright unless turned down from default. Not meaningfully louder than its 3-year-old predecessor, and the reviewer found the overall tuning a bit worse.

Powered Speakers

Small Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers

Ranked #3 of 22 in Small Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers, last listed at £529/pair - Audio Smile Little British Monitor: 529 GBP/pair Audio Smile eBay

Audio Smile Little British Monitor ranking card

Pros: For an 8 inch tall, 1.7kg desktop monitor it posts the highest preference score of any small powered monitor in this batch. The low frequency rolloff has an unusually low Q of 0.30, meaning it fades away cleanly rather than building into a resonant boomy peak the way many small monitors do near their extension limit. On axis deviation measures just 0.085dB average, the second tightest figure in this whole batch behind only the AsciLab A6B. Hand built in England with an active DSP crossover and aptX HD Bluetooth.

Cons: The compact 3 inch mid woofer limits bass extension to a measured 71.8Hz at -3dB, so this is a nearfield desktop speaker rather than a room filling one. 50W plus 50W of Class A/B power and a narrow +/-1dB treble trim limit its output ceiling next to larger active monitors at similar money. It’s a boutique UK product sold direct from the manufacturer, so buyers outside the UK pay import shipping.

Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers

Ranked #28 of 64 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers, last listed at $249.98 - Dayton Audio M4: $249.98 Parts Express eBay

Dayton Audio M4 ranking card

Pros: Good build quality. Has a subwoofer output for extending the low end. Overall linearity is decent for the price. Avoids sibilance since it’s slightly recessed right in the harsh 4-8kHz region.

Cons: The amplifier is only in the left speaker, so it’s not separate amps in each unit. Bass doesn’t extend very deep, and unlike some rivals it doesn’t use DSP to boost the low end. Sounds noticeably different up close versus at a normal listening distance, with a softer treble near field and a more recessed upper midrange farther away. Limited output headroom - distortion rises sharply above about 93dB, so it’s better suited to near-field or desktop use than as a far-field living-room speaker.

B&W Zeppelin Pro ranking card

Pros: Titanium dome tweeters and an improved 24-bit DAC over the standard Zeppelin for slightly better high-frequency detail on hi-res streams. Dynamic EQ DSP. Customizable downward-firing light. Same wide soundstage and deep bass extension as the standard Zeppelin.

Cons: Same price as the standard Zeppelin for a fairly modest tweeter/DAC upgrade. Nothing besides the lack of battery, lack of waterproofing, high cost and the Earfun Uboom X that’s so close to it in terms of sound quality for 7x less money. Basically an indoor only speaker. Although at this price point I’d generally recommend some Top Recommended Bookshelf Speakers instead which will have even better soundstage.
