#78 Cleer Alpha: $199.99 Wireless Amazon $199.99 eBay

Pros: ANC over ears at about $200 with aptX Adaptive, multipoint, a 3.5 mm cable and up to 35 hours with ANC, plus a preference score of 86. Sub bass extends fully to 20 Hz with a 2 dB lift and the lower mids are close to target.

Cons: Upper bass is 3 dB low, which thins out warmth a little, and an 8.4 dB dip near 5.3 kHz plus dips near 9.2 and 11.5 kHz make treble subdued. There is no AAC for iPhones, it weighs 330 g, and the score rests on a single measurement.

Frequency Response

How the Cleer Alpha measures across the audible range, against the Harman over-ear target that most listeners prefer in blind tests. Where the line sits above the target that range sounds louder (more bass, brighter treble), below it quieter. The curve is a single measurement, and both lines are shifted so their 500 Hz to 2 kHz average sits at 0 dB.
