#14 Kanto YU4: $479.99/pair Kanto eBay

Pros: A genuinely versatile small powered pair with phono preamp, optical input, Bluetooth, remote control and subwoofer output. Its local Spinorama snapshot reaches 5.09 with a subwoofer, and broad horizontal radiation should make placement and shared listening easier.

Cons: The 2.15 raw preference score and 69Hz measured low-frequency extension show why a subwoofer materially improves it. Measured sensitivity is only about 83dB and the response has several irregularities, so it is better for a desk or modest room than high-output listening.

How it compares: Just above it: Klipsch ProMedia Lumina - $100 cheaper. Just below it: Audioengine HD3 - $121 cheaper.
