#184 Edifier STAX Spirit S5: $569.99 Wireless Amazon $569.99 eBay
Pros: A planar magnetic headphone that works wirelessly, with an 80 hour rated battery, Bluetooth 5.4 and an unusually broad codec list including LDAC, aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive and LHDC, plus a wired option. Its preference score of 75 in squig.link hobbyist measurements reflects a fairly even response, with sub-bass right on target and extension held within 6 dB down to 20 Hz. Mid-bass sits about 3 dB above target, giving a punchy, slightly V-shaped presentation that bass fans enjoy.
Cons: There is no active noise cancelling, so the closed back is the only defense against commuter noise. A 7.8 dB peak near 8.7 kHz and air about 3 dB above target can make cymbals and sibilance sound splashy on bright recordings. At 347 g it is on the heavier side for a wireless headphone.
