Coverage note. Speaker Ranking currently covers 2 Benchmark models across headphone amps and dacs. These are the products in our database, not a complete list of everything Benchmark makes.

What this page covers. The Benchmark models ranked here span headphone amps and dacs, including Benchmark DAC3 HGC and Benchmark HPA4. Use each model’s category position to compare it with alternatives of the same size and use case.

This page lists all 2 Benchmark speakers ranked on this site across headphone amps and dacs. Each model is shown in the category where it competes, with its current rank and the size of that ranking.

Use the category position rather than the brand name alone: speakers from the same manufacturer can perform very differently by size, price and product family.

DAC and Headphone Amp Combos

Ranked #13 of 43 in DAC and Headphone Amp Combos - Benchmark DAC3 HGC: $2,399.00 Benchmark Media Systems eBay

Benchmark DAC3 HGC ranking card

Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 112 dB, clean for nearly all listening. It has USB, two optical, two coaxial and two analog inputs, RCA and XLR outputs, and a motorized volume knob with remote control. Its headphone outputs are rated for 1,250 mW into 30 ohms, enough for most planar magnetic headphones.

Cons: It costs many times more than the Topping DX3 Pro+, which rates higher and measures cleaner. The two headphone jacks are both 6.35 mm, so there is no balanced headphone output.

Headphone Amplifiers

Ranked #13 of 19 in Headphone Amplifiers - Benchmark HPA4: $3,499.00 Benchmark Media Systems eBay

Benchmark HPA4 ranking card

Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 119 dB, so the amp is transparent. It has a 4-pin XLR balanced headphone output, XLR and RCA line outputs for use as a preamp, and a 256 step relay volume control with IR remote. It is rated for 441 mW into 300 ohms, ample for high impedance headphones.

Cons: Benchmark does not publish a power figure into 32 ohms, so its output into low impedance planar magnetic headphones is unconfirmed. It costs far more than the JDS Labs Atom Amp 2, which rates higher with similar measured cleanliness. It has no built in DAC.
