111 ranked speakers carry an IPX7 rating, the most common water-resistance certification in our data by a wide margin. It means the speaker was tested and passed submersion in fresh water to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The X means dust was never tested, not that the speaker fails it; see speaker IP ratings explained for what that gap in the paperwork does and doesn’t tell you.
If dust and sand resistance matters as much as water, an IP67-rated speaker carries the same submersion certification plus a passed dust test, which is the better pick for a beach or festival.

Ranked #8 of 47 in Small Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Soundcore Mini 3 Pro: $30 Discontinued eBay
Pros: Lights on top. Deeper bass than most other speakers in the size. Measured bass extension of 58Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Rolled off highs. Real-world battery life falls well short of the 15-hour claim at higher volumes. Buttons are hard to see (black print on black housing) and it won’t multipoint to two phones at once. Discontinued and no longer sold new. Discontinued.

Ranked #28 of 47 in Small Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Onn Small Rugged Speaker: $15 Walmart eBay
Pros: A highly portable 286g, IPX7-rated speaker with USB-C charging, a built-in mic, aux input and Party Sync support. For a very small, single-driver speaker it is easy to throw in a bag and owner feedback is consistently positive about its straightforward setup, toughness and everyday sound. Measured bass extension of 66Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Its 1.5-inch driver cannot create meaningful deep bass (about 66Hz at -10dB) or the clarity and scale of better small speakers. It is mono, has no app or EQ, and the upward-facing driver makes it more of a close-range tabletop speaker than a room-filling one.

Ranked #31 of 47 in Small Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Monster Bluetooth Speaker: $19.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: A very light, IPX7-rated mini speaker with USB-C charging, aux and microSD playback, speakerphone support and TWS pairing. It is a convenient rugged travel speaker when water resistance and small size matter more than bass. Measured bass extension of 95Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Its tiny 36mm driver has very limited bass (about 95Hz at -10dB), elevated mids and rolled-off highs. It cannot deliver the scale, detail or battery endurance of stronger small-speaker rivals, and no app or EQ is available to improve the tuning.

Pros: Magnetic clip attaches through a shirt/jacket without pins. Blue safety light for visibility when running in low light. It’s only 39g of weight. ~15 hour battery life. Measured bass extension of ~300Hz (-10dB).
Cons: It sounds worse than a clock radio with the worst bass of any speaker. It’s a huge compromise in sound for the small weight.

Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Ranked #2 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Soundcore Motion 300: $79.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: Pretty deep bass for the small size. Pocket size in a big pocket. Can be used in stereo facing you, or omnidirectional lying down. Ability to have a custom EQ for each orientation, standing, lying flat, hanging. Try the Uboom L EQs from Oluv for a more neutral sound. Measured bass extension of 50Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Without the above EQ or turning the top 2 treble EQ bars to max, this speaker is very rolled off in the treble and will rank around #50 in the rankings. Bassup mode is worse than Signature. Not quite as detailed or neutral as higher ranked speakers. Slight bass distortion when turned up.

Ranked #3 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Soundcore Motion+: $79.99 used, Discontinued Amazon eBay
Pros: The previous best sounding in class, still a great speaker with separate tweeters, more bass at full volume and better off-axis treble frequency response than the Uboom L. Just okay with the default EQ, I highly recommend using this EQ setting from r/kai7895 to get it more neutral. To achieve the absolute best sound you’ll need the Wavelet app (Android only) and set the provided Wavelet EQ in there too. Turn off the wavelet EQ for outdoor use. An alternative is Oluv’s EQ which only needs the Soundcore app EQ. Measured bass extension of 54Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Not quite as neutral or detailed as the Uboom L. Without the above EQ, this speaker will rank around #25 in the rankings. Discontinued.

Pros: Deepest bass of any medium size speaker. Use xbass mode for flattest frequency response. Measured bass extension of 47Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Single driver, not stereo. Lack of detail. Lack of upper treble, peaky lower treble. Not great off axis. Keep in mind this speaker gives up some sound quality for deeper bass.

Ranked #21 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Tribit Maxsound Plus V2: $79.99 Discontinued eBay
Pros: Adds true wireless stereo pairing between two units, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB-C charging, on top of the same flat-response Xbass mode as the original Maxsound Plus/Thunderbox Plus. Measured bass extension of 58Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Slightly less deep bass than the best in category. Measured tuning is nearly identical to the original V1, so the upgrade is about connectivity and modes, not sound quality. Discontinued and no longer sold new anywhere. Discontinued.

Ranked #25 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Bogasing G4: $52.95 Amazon eBay
Pros: A 0.83kg travel-friendly speaker with 50W output, IPX7 protection, USB-C charging, aux and microSD playback, LC3 Bluetooth and TWS pairing. It reaches a useful 100dB maximum level and has a measured 56Hz -10dB bass point, giving it more low-end presence than many speakers of this size. Measured bass extension of 56Hz (-10dB).
Cons: The upper treble is boosted and uneven, while the mids sit slightly behind the bass and highs, so it is not a neutral choice for vocal-focused music. It has no app or user EQ, and its Super Bass and Vocal modes offer little practical differentiation according to listening tests.

Ranked #31 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Cleer Audio Scene: $74.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: Quite neutral frequency response, almost indistinguishable from the very neutral Flip 6 besides the worse bass extension. Measured bass extension of ~62Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Less bass extension than a Flip 6. No app, EQ, stereo pairing, or multipoint. Sound is fairly directional - best right in front of it. Bigger and heavier than most speakers this size.

Pros: Similar to the Maxsound Plus in sound, likely uses the same drivers. Likely the best 360 speaker. Measured bass extension of 61Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Not stereo. Slightly rolled off treble, not as deep of bass as the best in category. Outdoor mode is more flat, indoor mode boosts bass. Not technically a 360 speaker, only front and rear. Discontinued and no longer sold new. Discontinued.

Ranked #37 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - JBL Charge Essential 2: $130 eBay
Pros: A tough, compact 930g speaker with IPX7 water resistance, USB-C charging, a USB-A power-bank output and a claimed 20-hour battery life. It delivers much of the Charge 5’s familiar punch and volume in a simpler package, with bass that reaches roughly 55Hz for this size. Measured bass extension of ~55Hz (-10dB).
Cons: It is a pared-back Charge: no app EQ, no PartyBoost/party mode and no stereo-pair option. It plays mono, has a little less bass authority than the Charge 5, and its IPX7 rating does not promise dust protection. Choose it for a good sale price, not for extra features.

Ranked #52 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Tribit Stormbox Flow: $79.99 Tribit eBay
Pros: Up to 30 hours of battery life - roughly double most rivals (~20-24 hrs with XBass on). IP67 rated with a loose handle for carrying/hanging. Pairs with a second Flow for stereo; USB-C port charges your phone too. Measured bass extension of 47Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Not stereo. Midrange and bass are weirdly recessed about 4db below 700Hz. You need xbass mode for it to not sound like a clock radio with missing bass. You also can’t turn up the bass enough in the custom EQ modes to get it neutral, so it will sound bass light. Firmware 1.2.3 fixes the distortion issues with xbass mode on, but bass still sounds wobbly and uncontrolled.

Ranked #69 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - JBL Flip Essential: $130 eBay
Pros: A genuinely portable 471g speaker with IPX7 water resistance, a 3.5mm aux input and 16W output from two full-range drivers. It is a simple, no-app option for wired sources, travel and casual listening where its cylindrical shape and modest size are a genuine advantage.
Cons: Bass is lighter than the Flip 5 and the 80Hz claimed low-frequency limit means it cannot deliver real low-end weight. Battery life is only a claimed 10 hours, there is no speakerphone, EQ or party mode, and its older Bluetooth 4.1 platform and discontinued status make it a basic used-market choice.

Ranked #84 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Soundcore 2: $29.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: Soundcore 2 uses 2x 38mm fullrange. Its 318 g, claimed 24 hours (Manufacturer specified) battery life, IPX7 protection, aux input and stereo playback make it a practical option for its intended room or portable use.
Cons: Its 70Hz - 20kHz (Manufacturer specified) specification points to limited deep-bass reach for the cabinet size. There is no companion app. No EQ adjustment.

Ranked #86 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3: $191.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: IP67 rated, floats, and survives drops from up to 1 meter. 20 hour battery life - about double most speakers this size. Measured bass extension of 70Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Not stereo, barely any bass. You can tell from the micro USB that they are just feeding you the same crap hardware over and over, this is inexcusable for a product released in 2018. Not technically a 360 speaker, only front and rear.

Pros: IPX7 water resistant, dual pairing for stereo setup, excellent battery life (20 hours), instant on/off buttons, 97dB max volume. Measured bass extension of 52Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Muffled sounding, treble dips from 5kHz-12kHz. Listening from the front is the worst frequency response, lay it down facing up with xbass off for the smoothest response. Ranked #100 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Raymate R5: $20 Amazon eBay
Pros: A light 900g portable speaker with 20W output, IPX7 water resistance, USB-C charging, aux input, speakerphone capability and TWS stereo pairing. Its dual drivers and passive radiator make it a practical grab-and-go choice when durability and features matter more than very deep bass.
Cons: Listening impressions identify limited bass weight and a peaky upper-midrange, which can make vocals and guitars sound forward rather than smooth. There is no app or EQ to tailor that balance, and the claimed 16-hour battery figure will vary substantially with volume.

Ranked #132 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Skullcandy Terrain XL: $79.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: The loudest and longest-running of the Terrain line at 95dB and 18 hours, and the only one with a built-in microphone. IPX7 rated with a nylon wrist wrap. Multi-Link pairs it with other Skullcandy speakers.
Cons: Shares the Terrain line’s tuning: no bass, very rolled off treble, and distortion in the treble. The extra size buys volume and runtime, not better sound.

Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Ranked #10 of 78 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Soundcore Boom 2: $99.99 Amazon B&H Photo Video eBay
Pros: Pretty deep bass for the size. Cool lights in the side passive radiators. For the best sound quality use Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ. With the stock tuning, this speaker would rank around #24, due to the boosted bass and rising treble. Measured bass extension of 47Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters. Sound processing issues with inconsistent bass notes that disappear at low levels like the Soundcore Boom and Soundcore Boost, not great for listening at low levels. Quite bass heavy with BassUp turned on, which is best left off. A little bit of a bright tuning in the treble, about +5db.

Pros: 30W loud bass-heavy sound, excellent budget-friendly value. 10,000mAh battery for 24 hours claimed (15-18 hours with BassUp engaged at high volume). Waterproof, buoyant design, convenient carry handle. PowerIQ USB port charges devices. BassUp feature works well with clear mids/highs. Measured bass extension of 53Hz (-10dB).

Ranked #15 of 78 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Soundcore Select Pro: $80 Discontinued eBay
Pros: A tough 1.5kg speaker with IPX7 protection, app EQ, a claimed 16-hour battery life, USB-C charging, power-bank output and PartyCast for linking up to 100 compatible speakers. It reaches a useful 106dB maximum level and offers a lively, bass-forward sound for casual outdoor use.
Cons: Independent lab listening finds only fair music fidelity: bass is somewhat boomy and lacks deep extension, mids can sound nasal and congested, and treble becomes smeared or sizzly. It strains at high volume, lacks an aux input and is discontinued, so it is best chosen for features and durability rather than detail or neutral sound. Discontinued.

Ranked #19 of 78 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Soundcore Motion X600: $150 Amazon B&H Photo Video eBay
Pros: Firmware 4.2.9 is a big improvement in sound quality over previous releases. Try this Oluv EQ for the best sound quality. Measured bass extension of 52Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Stock frequency response is wavy. Use spatial mode for best sound quality. Need a different EQ for each volume step. Dip in the upper bass around 120Hz. Rising frequency response, treble a little hot. Would be ranked around #20 without the Oluv EQ. Even with the Oluv EQ the bass isn’t very deep and the sound is still a little unnatural.

Ranked #23 of 78 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - onn Portable FM Boombox: $74.83 Walmart eBay
Pros: Extremely good value. Reasonably deep bass, though not as deep as something like the JBL Xtreme 3, Soundcore Boom 2, or Tribit Stormbox Lava. IPX7 waterproof and floats. FM radio with 10 presets. 6 multicolor LED lighting effects. Can run on battery or corded power.
Cons: Reasonable frequency response, but not quite as smooth as some of the top-ranked speakers in this size. No custom EQ. Only available in the United States and Canada.

Ranked #31 of 78 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Marshall Middleton: $221.31 Amazon eBay
Pros: Very deep bass for the size/weight. Measured bass extension of 39Hz (-10dB).
Cons: 5db dip at 1.7kHz and 6.3kHz. 9kHz treble peak. Not a very smooth frequency response. A lot of Marshall’s added dsp echo which cannot be turned off, very distracting and annoying. It’s like forcing you to listen to your music in an echo chamber. Bass is reasonably deep but artificial sounding and flabby, with no attack and no dynamics. Treble is rolled off.

Ranked #34 of 78 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Dockin D Fine: $110 Discontinued eBay
Pros: A well-regarded two-way stereo Bluetooth speaker with four active drivers and passive radiators. Independent reviews praise its clear, natural vocal reproduction, controlled bass and unusually composed sound for the format; it also provides USB-C charging, aux input and useful power-bank capability.
Cons: It is discontinued, so condition and support matter more than its original specifications. There is no app EQ, modern codec support or weather rating, and reviews find the tonal balance becomes less even at high volume. Video use is better wired because Bluetooth latency is not especially low. Discontinued.

Ranked #57 of 78 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Xdobo X8 Max: $73 eBay
Pros: A 2.86kg, feature-packed boombox with claimed 100W output, a 20,000mAh battery, USB-C charging, power-bank output, IPX7 protection, aux and microSD playback, speakerphone capability and TWS. Dual woofers and tweeters provide enough output for outdoor background music, with a roughly 52Hz -10dB bass point. Measured bass extension of ~52Hz (-10dB).
Cons: The voicing is bass-heavy with thin, boosted highs that can turn harsh, and reviews report distortion rather than clean dynamics when pushed hard. There is no app or user EQ to correct it; the limited tested water resistance and less-refined tuning make it a poor pick for critical listening.

Ranked #71 of 78 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - LG Xboom Go PL7: $70 LG Xboom Go PL7 eBay
Pros: A 1.45kg portable with IPX7 protection, a claimed 24-hour battery, aux input, speakerphone capability, stereo pairing and Wireless Party Link. It plays fairly loudly for its size with few obvious artifacts, and its LED-rimmed passive radiators make it a practical, fun choice for casual outdoor listening.
Cons: Independent testing finds weak low-bass and top-end extension, a narrow soundstage and uneven off-axis response. The default Sound Boost processing can make the upper mids and treble aggressive; turning it off improves balance but does not transform it into a detailed or deep-bass speaker. It has no user EQ to properly tailor the result.

Pros: A durable 2.1kg portable speaker with claimed 80W RMS output, IPX7 protection, USB-C charging, aux input, power-bank output, speakerphone capability and TWS. Its dual-driver design can play loudly enough for a large room or a small outdoor gathering, with a long claimed 18-hour runtime.
Cons: Bass is limited for the stated output and can distort or rattle at high volume, undermining its party-speaker ambitions. There is no app or EQ to tame the balance, so keep expectations focused on convenient loud background music rather than deep, controlled bass or refined sound.

Pros: A durable 2.52kg outdoor speaker with claimed 60W output, IPX7 protection, USB-C charging, aux and microSD playback, speakerphone capability, a power bank and TWS pairing. It offers long claimed battery life and can play loudly enough for a casual party, with a bass-heavy sound that carries outdoors. Measured bass extension of 65Hz (-10dB).
Cons: The measured 65Hz -10dB bass point means it lacks true low bass despite its boomy voicing. Reviews describe fuzzy mids, mushy bass when pushed and rolled-off treble, while there is no app or EQ to restore balance. It is best for loud background music, not clear or refined listening.

Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Ranked #2 of 75 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Tribit Stormbox Blast: $179.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off. Measured bass extension of 43Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5kHz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.

Ranked #21 of 75 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 5: $499.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: The iconic circular cabinet and integrated handle make it an attractive room-to-room speaker. Reviews praise its generous bass, balanced mids and smooth top end at moderate levels, giving it a warm, relaxed presentation for casual indoor music.
Cons: The large bass boost can mask lower-mid detail and make dense mixes muddy. Battery life is only around eight hours at moderate volume, it is not especially loud, and it has no water resistance for outdoor use.

Ranked #28 of 75 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Soundcore Boom 2 Plus: $179.99 Amazon B&H Photo Video eBay
Pros: Quite a bit lighter than most of the other boombox size speakers. This speaker will likely move up as we get a good EQ tune that makes it a lot more neutral. Measured bass extension of 39Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Warm tuning meaning a rolled off treble and some upper bass boost. Reasonably deep bass, but not as good as the top ranked.
