Last updated: October 10, 2026

These are not really the same size class, and that is the honest framing here. The Teufel Rockster 2 ranks #5 of 13 large party speakers by sound quality at $1,269.94; the Teufel Rockster Air 2 ranks #5 of 15 battery-powered PA speakers by sound quality at $499.99.

Teufel Rockster 2 vs Teufel Rockster Air 2

The Teufel Rockster 2 is the tougher pick. Sounds better and more evenly tuned than the JBL Partybox 720. It is rated IPX2, while the Teufel Rockster Air 2 has no water resistance. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Teufel Rockster Air 2 lacks. Watch for: Not quite as deep bass as the JBL Partybox 720.

The Teufel Rockster Air 2 is the longer-running choice. More consistent off-axis sound than the JBL Partybox 130, thanks to its single horn-loaded compression driver. It is rated for 58 hours of battery against 15 for the Teufel Rockster 2. It supports aptX HD Bluetooth, which the Teufel Rockster 2 lacks. The catch: Bass isn’t as deep as the JBL Partybox 130’s boosted bass, though the JBL’s is boomy rather than truly deep.

Buy the Teufel Rockster 2 ($1,269.94) for a large party speaker; the Teufel Rockster Air 2 ($499.99) suits a battery-powered PA speaker instead.

Teufel Rockster 2 ranking card

Older model: the Teufel Rockster (ranked lower, rated 4.4/5). See every Teufel Rockster generation.

Pros: Sounds better and more evenly tuned than the JBL Partybox 720. Horn-loaded tweeter gives far more consistent off-axis sound, unlike the JBL Partybox 720’s dual tweeters, which suffer from comb-filtering interference. Gets louder without distorting: the JBL Partybox 720 starts breaking up at high volume well before this does. Projects clearly over long outdoor distances, covering a large area evenly.

Cons: Not quite as deep bass as the JBL Partybox 720. Bass output drops off further at high volume.

Teufel Rockster Air 2 ranking card

Older model: the Teufel Rockster Air (ranked lower, rated 3.4/5). See every Teufel Rockster Air generation.

Pros: More consistent off-axis sound than the JBL Partybox 130, thanks to its single horn-loaded compression driver. Projects sound more evenly to the sides, unlike the JBL’s narrower front-firing dispersion. Cleaner instrument separation at high volume than the JBL Partybox 130, which turns anemic and loses bass at max volume despite its bass boost.

Cons: Bass isn’t as deep as the JBL Partybox 130’s boosted bass, though the JBL’s is boomy rather than truly deep. Bass and treble aren’t perfectly controlled at maximum volume: can sound hollow or too bright unless turned down from default. Not meaningfully louder than its 3-year-old predecessor, and the reviewer found the overall tuning a bit worse.
