EarFun Uboom X vs JBL Partybox 100

Last updated: October 10, 2026

These sit in different size classes, so this is not a straight ranking comparison. The EarFun Uboom X ranks #1 of 91 boombox speakers by sound quality at $159.99; the JBL Partybox 100 ranks #8 of 46 party speakers by sound quality at $499.99. The JBL Partybox 100 is discontinued; its replacement is the JBL Partybox Club 120.

EarFun Uboom X vs JBL Partybox 100

The EarFun Uboom X is the longer-running, lighter pick. Tuned by Oluv and he knocked it out of the park again. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 12 for the JBL Partybox 100. At 9 lbs (4.1 kg) it weighs much less than the JBL Partybox 100 at 21.4 lbs (9.7 kg). It is rated IP67, while the JBL Partybox 100 has no water resistance. The catch: The out of the box 0.33 firmware and EQ sounds horrible.

Why pick the JBL Partybox 100: Quite neutral sound, pretty deep bass. The tradeoff: A slight peak in the upper mids.

Worth knowing: the EarFun Uboom X is discontinued, though it still ranks #1 of 91 boombox speakers by sound quality, so a used unit beats most of what is still sold new.

Buy the EarFun Uboom X ($159.99) for a boombox speaker; the JBL Partybox 100 ($499.99) suits a party speaker instead.

EarFun Uboom X ranking card

Pros: Tuned by Oluv and he knocked it out of the park again. Deeper bass than the Tribit Stormbox Blast. Extremely neutral, possibly the best of any modern Bluetooth speaker slightly behind the Vifa Helsinki. This is the only speaker that sounds correct at every single volume level due to Oluv’s individual EQ settings at each volume level. Other speakers will need a different EQ at each volume level. Amazing sounding at low levels as it boosts bass and treble at low levels to account for the equal-loudness contour. Just considering the midrange and treble, this speaker is better sounding than the EarFun Uboom L. Measured bass extension of ~38Hz (-10dB).

Cons: The out of the box 0.33 firmware and EQ sounds horrible. Some users have reported sound interruption issues when running two in TWS, though not on every source device, and disabling AAC resolves it where it occurs. Discontinued.

Setup: Please update it using the Earfun app (Android or iOS) and select an Oluv EQ. The Earfun app has sound profiles created by Oluv for Studio, Indoor, Indoor+, Outdoor, Outdoor+, BOOM xxX, and Ground 0 which are all fantastic. Oluv has a newer firmware pack that brings it up a few more notches of neutral
