The Encore 2 appears to have better off-axis performance from its move to dome tweeters over cones, though it is missing a little upper bass. The Oluv-tuned Uboom X costs $159.99 against $330, and its only real caveat is the horrible out-of-the-box 0.33 firmware and EQ.
Buy the JBL Partybox Encore 2, since the EarFun Uboom X is discontinued and only worth hunting down used.
If water resistance matters to you, the EarFun Uboom X at IP67 (brief submersion) holds up far better than the JBL Partybox Encore 2 at IPX4 (splashing).
