Small Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers

Ranked #23 of 54 in Small Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Tronsmart Mirtune H1: $29.99 Tronsmart Best Buy eBay

Tronsmart Mirtune H1 ranking card

Pros: At 291 g with a built-in carabiner, it is tiny, and in side by side tests from Dominik Reviews, The Tech Files and Jay’s Straight Up Reviews listeners often preferred its deeper bass to the JBL Clip 5, JBL Go 4 and Soundcore Select 4 Go. The Tech Files called it a very close match for the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. IPX7 waterproofing, a 20 hour battery rating, app EQ, stereo pairing and a speakerphone microphone.

Cons: In Storytripper HD’s comparison many listeners found the JBL Clip 5 clearer and fuller, and Beautiful Zar DJ’s viewers preferred the Tribit PocketGo and Stormbox Micro 3. The treble can turn hard and the sound loses composure near full volume. It is a single mono unit rated at 8W with bass only down to 70Hz, and there is no aux input.

Newer model: the Tribit Stormbox Mini+, ranked higher, rated 2.5/5.

Pros: IPX7 waterproof, excellent battery life (12 hours), RGB LED lighting, app support with AAC codec, true wireless stereo (TWS) capability, USB-C charging. Measured bass extension of ~85Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Lacking quite a bit of bass. Sounds hollow and thuddy. Just not great overall. Discontinued; Tribit has retired it, superseded by the Stormbox Mini+.

Ranked #24 of 102 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Bogasing S8 Pro Max: $123.49 Amazon eBay

Bogasing S8 Pro Max ranking card

Older model: the Bogasing S8 Pro (ranked lower, rated 2.7/5).

Pros: A true three way stereo design in an aluminium body: a 70mm woofer, two 52mm midrange drivers and two 31mm silk tweeters angled outward, backed by two 80mm passive radiators. Its 3D mode throws a noticeably wider soundstage than mono rivals like the Bose SoundLink Plus and JBL Charge 5, and in side by side listening it came across as fuller, punchier and more detailed than both the Charge 5 and the Soundcore Motion X600. Unlike many portables it stays clean at full volume without audible compression or distortion, where the Bose SoundLink Max, Marshall Middleton and Loewe We Hear Pro all strained. Vocal mode is the most neutral preset. Plays FLAC and other lossless files from USB drives and microSD cards, has an aux input and a built-in mic, and two units pair for stereo.

Cons: Its tuning is bright: the 3D mode pushes the mids and treble hard, can sound sharp or tiring at higher volumes, and sometimes adds an echo effect to vocals. Bass is punchy but not especially deep, and the Tribit StormBox Lava, Harman Kardon Go + Play 3 and Loewe We Hear Pro all deliver warmer, fuller low end at moderate volume; the Sony ULT Field 5 also sounded richer at moderate levels. Bass mode is its quietest preset rather than its fullest. There is no app or adjustable EQ, only three fixed sound modes.

Pros: IP67 rated, IP67 water/dustproof. Close to 20 hour battery life. Vibrant sound with booming bass, clean mids. Bluetooth 5.4 with good range. Premium tactile grille, smooth silicone. Quality build at $179.

Cons: Boosted thuddy bass, but not as deep as the SoundLink Flex and you should probably just buy one of those instead if you want a Bose.

Marshall Middleton II ranking card

Older model: the Marshall Middleton (ranked lower, rated 4/5).

Pros: Very deep bass for the size/weight. Measured bass extension of 38Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Bass boosted which drowns out the midrange. Dip around 200Hz, peak at 1kHz, dipped at 1.6kHz. Strange frequency response through the mids.

Ranked #44 of 102 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - JBL Xtreme 4: $309.95 Amazon B&H Photo Video eBay

JBL Xtreme 4 ranking card

Newer model: the JBL Xtreme 5, ranked higher, rated 4.6/5.

Pros: A rugged 2.1kg portable with IP67 protection, a replaceable battery, USB-C power-bank output, Auracast, stereo pairing and a useful 5-band app EQ. Independent reviews find the midrange detailed and the sound clear, punchy and refined for outdoor use; it also reaches a strong 106dB maximum level and has excellent real-world battery life.

Cons: It cannot produce the deep rumble of a larger speaker, and bass compression increases near maximum volume. The front-facing layout has only modest off-axis consistency, Bluetooth latency is high for video, and the default balance benefits from EQ adjustment. There is no aux input, so wired sources are not supported. Out of the box it leans bass-boosted, with a dip between the upper bass and midrange that EQ cannot fix, and it pushes the upper mids and treble at high volume. It is also expensive.

Ranked #53 of 102 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Tronsmart Bang 2: $109.99 Best Buy Tronsmart eBay

Tronsmart Bang 2 ranking card

Pros: In Jagist’s side by side tests, the Bang 2 (after its firmware update) was picked over the Soundcore Boom 2 and over the JBL Xtreme 5, which distorted at high volume, and it kept its bass above 40% volume where the Tribit Stormbox Lava fell apart. Listeners also mostly preferred it to the JBL Xtreme 4. A racetrack woofer, two tweeters and two passive radiators are rated for 90W and 105dB. Tronsmart rates the battery at 26 hours at half volume with the lights off, and it adds IPX6 water resistance, a handle plus a detachable shoulder strap, app EQ, light effects, stereo and multi-speaker pairing, aux, TF card and USB playback, and a USB-C power bank.

Cons: Verdicts against the Boom 2 and the Lava were split: Dominik Reviews preferred the Boom 2, and several listeners found the Bang 2’s mids muffled and its highs subdued without custom EQ. Next to the Tronsmart Fiitune X30 it turned into a jumble of sound near full volume, and the EarFun UBoom X clearly beat it. It needed a firmware update to sound its best, and at 2.63 kg it is heavy for its size.

Ranked #55 of 102 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Sony ULT Field 5: $348.00 Amazon eBay

Sony ULT Field 5 ranking card

Older models: the Sony SRS-XB43 (ranked lower, rated 3.5/5) and the Sony SRS-XG300 (ranked lower, rated 3.1/5).

Pros: A tough 3.3kg portable with IP67 protection, LDAC/AAC support, aux input, a 10-band app EQ, Party Connect, USB-C power-bank output and a claimed 25-hour battery. Reviews find it energetic and dynamic with substantial bass, enough volume for a yard, and two ULT modes that let bass-focused listeners choose a deeper or punchier presentation.

Cons: It prioritizes bass and loudness over fidelity: reviews find the upper mids and highs subdued, with limited stereo separation and soundstage depth. Deep bass is less authoritative than the enclosure suggests, and the loud confirmation tone when pressing the ULT button is an unnecessary annoyance. Use the app EQ and audition it before buying for detail-focused music.

Ranked #78 of 102 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Tronsmart Force Max: $119.99 Tronsmart eBay

Tronsmart Force Max ranking card

Pros: Two woofers, two tweeters and two passive radiators on opposite faces spread its 80W of sound all around it. IPX6 water resistance, a 13 hour battery rating at half volume, a retractable strap, aux input, TF card and USB playback, a USB-C power bank, three EQ presets, a speakerphone microphone and stereo pairing.

Cons: Sonido Pesado found the Tronsmart Halo 100 clearly better, with clearer mids and highs. The Force Max’s mids are recessed and it audibly distorts near full volume, which Dominik Reviews put down to a poorly set limiter, and listeners preferred the Sony SRS-XB43 for balance. There is no app, it uses the older Bluetooth 5.0, and it weighs 2.54 kg.

Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers

Ranked #2 of 91 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Tribit Stormbox Blast: $199.99 Amazon eBay

Tribit Stormbox Blast ranking card

Newer model: the Tribit Stormbox Blast 2, ranked lower, rated 3.8/5.

Smaller models: the Tribit Stormbox Pro (rated 3.7/5), the Tribit Stormbox Flow (rated 3.5/5) and the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 (rated 4.5/5).

Pros: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off. Measured bass extension of 43Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5kHz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.

Ranked #4 of 91 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - JBL Partybox Encore 2: $330 Sam’s Club eBay

JBL Partybox Encore 2 ranking card

Older model: the JBL Partybox Encore (ranked lower, rated 4.3/5).

Pros: The Encore 2 improves the original with dome tweeters, a less boomy balance, slightly deeper bass, longer battery life and two included wireless microphones. Its compact karaoke-ready design and 7-band EQ make it more adaptable indoors than the earlier Encore. Measured bass extension of 42Hz (-10dB).

Cons: It still lacks some upper-bass punch and cannot match the scale of the larger PartyBoxes. The main value is compact karaoke convenience rather than full-range party output.

Ranked #19 of 91 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Zealot S89: $259.99 Amazon AliExpress eBay

Zealot S89 ranking card

Pros: A 7.3kg boombox with a claimed 36Hz bass extension, 40-hour battery life, IPX6 protection, USB-C charging, aux, USB and microSD playback, TWS and multi-speaker PartyAdd. Listener comparisons find it capable of very high output and substantial bass for outdoor use. A great value for its bass, battery life and maximum volume. Measured bass extension of 36Hz (-10dB).

Cons: At high volume, listener reports describe the bass as loose or muddy and the overall balance as less clear than better boombox speakers. The heavy cabinet and basic finish also make it less polished for daily portability, while its multiple EQ modes cannot substitute for a genuinely neutral tuning.

Pros: Pretty insane output capability for the size. IP68 protection and Auracast pairing with other current JBL speakers. Measured bass extension of 41Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Pretty overpriced for the category. Better than the Boombox 3 mostly because there are more 7 EQ bands instead of just 3 and it can be better tuned. Try Oluv’s EQ for it. Out of the box sounds worse than the Boombox 3. No Aux input.

Ranked #28 of 91 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Bugani Brief Pro: $99.98 Amazon eBay

Bugani Brief Pro ranking card

Pros: Crystal clear and detailed with good separation of instruments and vocals, impressive for a two-way layout of two 4” woofers and two 44mm tweeters on 80W RMS. It plays louder than the Harman Kardon Go + Play 3 and, in side by side sound tests, many listeners preferred it to the JBL Xtreme 4 and found it close to the EarFun UBoom X. A claimed 12 hours of battery, Bluetooth 5.3 and stereo pairing, at a low price.

Cons: It turns a little harsh and fatiguing at 80% to 100% volume while losing bass, and it doesn’t reach as deep as the Go + Play 3, which reviewers still preferred for its thicker, richer bass. No published water rating.

Pros: Warmer and more open than the Boomster 2021 it replaces, with nicer, less harsh highs, a wide stereo image from its three-way layout (two 20mm tweeters, two 65mm midrange drivers and a 110mm woofer with passive radiators) and good detail. Its new treble control and remote let you tame the top end. DAB+ and FM radio, a claimed 23 hours of battery at medium volume, IPX5, Bluetooth 5.0 with AAC and aptX HD, multipoint, an aux input, USB-C charging and stereo pairing.

Cons: Side by side with the Boomster 2021 the sound barely changed, and it has a little less deep bass. Against the Harman Kardon Go + Play 3 it sounds sharper and thinner, with weaker bass and a less natural stereo image, and its bass drops off at full volume. At 3.75 kg it is heavy for its size, it has no power bank output, and IPX5 is a step down from the older model’s IPX7.

Ranked #49 of 91 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers - Tronsmart Fiitune X30: $144.90 AliExpress Tronsmart Best Buy eBay

Tronsmart Fiitune X30 ranking card

Pros: A three-way, six-driver design (racetrack woofer, two midranges, two tweeters and an upward-firing driver) with 80W, Hi-Res certification, LDAC, a claimed 14 hours of battery and IPX6. It plays loud with a lot of mid-bass, reviewers found good separation of instruments and voices, and some listeners found it warm and full at high volume.

Cons: Side by side it clearly lost to the Harman Kardon Go + Play 3, the Soundcore Boom 2 and the EarFun UBoom X: listeners described muddy, dark mid-bass that fails to reproduce low notes, dull and underemphasized treble, and a boxy, sterile sound at low volume next to the JBL Xtreme 4.
