JBL Xtreme 5 vs Zealot S167

Last updated: October 10, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Xtreme 5. It ranks #2 of 103 large speakers by sound quality, rated 4.6/5, at $399.95. The Zealot S167 ranks #64, rated 3.3/5, at $169, $230.95 cheaper, a saving that is not big enough to make up the sound-quality gap.

JBL Xtreme 5 vs Zealot S167

The JBL Xtreme 5 is the better-sounding, lighter option. Removable battery. At 6.4 lbs (2.9 kg) it weighs noticeably less than the Zealot S167 at 9.4 lbs (4.28 kg). The catch: High priced.

What the Zealot S167 does well: Zealot rates the S167 at 100W through four drivers: two 92mm woofers and two 42mm units, with a claimed 20Hz-20kHz response and better than 90dB signal-to-noise. It keeps a wired aux input, which the JBL Xtreme 5 lacks. The catch: The official parameter table publishes no IP rating and no verified playback time, and conflicting retail figures (IPX6, 24 hours, even 4 hours) are unconfirmed.

Buy the JBL Xtreme 5. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $230.95 you would save on the Zealot S167 does not close the gap.

JBL Xtreme 5 ranking card

Older models: the JBL Xtreme 3 (ranked lower, rated 4.3/5), the JBL Xtreme 4 (ranked lower, rated 3.8/5), the JBL Xtreme 2 (ranked lower, rated 3.4/5) and the JBL Xtreme (ranked lower, rated 3.2/5). See every JBL Xtreme generation.

Pros: Removable battery. Quite deep bass, reaching well below 40Hz. A fantastic sounding speaker with excellent off-axis dispersion, a big step up from older JBL portables. Beats the Soundcore Boom 2 and Tribit Stormbox Blast on bass depth and clarity. Plays clean at volume, unlike the JBL Boombox 4.

Cons: High priced. Some bass boost. A hole in the mid-upper bass which can’t be EQ’d out. Default EQ presets are weak (Signature is boring, Chill and Vocal are close to unusable): needs the custom EQ to sound its best. Bigger and heavier than the JBL Xtreme 4.

Setup: Try this Oluv EQ for the most neutral sound

Zealot S167 ranking card

Pros: Zealot rates the S167 at 100W through four drivers: two 92mm woofers and two 42mm units, with a claimed 20Hz-20kHz response and better than 90dB signal-to-noise. The 24000mAh battery (six 21700 cells), Type-C charging, 5V/2A power-bank output, RGB lighting, TWS/multi-speaker linking and onboard EQ suit parties and off-grid use. A 3.5mm AUX input, USB-A and microSD playback accept most sources, and a shoulder strap, storage bag and carry handle make the 3.6kg (net) box transportable. Techder Audios measured it as very loud for the money.

Cons: The official parameter table publishes no IP rating and no verified playback time, and conflicting retail figures (IPX6, 24 hours, even 4 hours) are unconfirmed. Power claims also conflict, from 100W on the spec sheet to 150W peak marketing. With no independent measurements, the 20Hz bass extension, real maximum SPL and distortion (only a ‘<1%‘ claim) are unknown. Charging is rated DC 5V - slow for a 24000mAh pack - no charge time is confirmed, and Bluetooth codecs are unspecified. Techder Audios found it less detailed than the smaller Xiaomi Sound Party 50W, with bass that is stronger rather than deeper.
