EarFun Uboom X vs Joy&Oluv'Sone sEARius S1

Last updated: October 10, 2026

These sit in different size classes, so this is not a straight ranking comparison. The EarFun Uboom X ranks #1 of 91 boombox speakers by sound quality at $159.99; the Joy&Oluv’Sone sEARius S1 ranks #1 of 166 medium speakers by sound quality.

EarFun Uboom X vs Joy&Oluv’Sone sEARius S1

The EarFun Uboom X is the deeper-bass choice. Tuned by Oluv and he knocked it out of the park again. Its bass reaches about 38Hz before falling 10dB, against 49Hz for the Joy&Oluv’Sone sEARius S1. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Joy&Oluv’Sone sEARius S1. The tradeoff: The out of the box 0.33 firmware and EQ sounds horrible.

What the Joy&Oluv’Sone sEARius S1 does well: A compact portable speaker developed with a focus on tonal balance, natural midrange timbre, and smooth frequency response rather than exaggerated commercial bass boost. The catch: A limited-production model available primarily through direct pre-orders rather than retail distribution.

One note: the EarFun Uboom X is discontinued, but it still ranks #1 of 91 boombox speakers by sound quality, ahead of most of what is still sold new, so it is worth considering used.

Buy the EarFun Uboom X for a boombox speaker, or the Joy&Oluv’Sone sEARius S1 for a medium speaker instead.

About the ratings: the Joy&Oluv’Sone sEARius S1’s rating is estimated from measured siblings and predecessors rather than its own measurements, with a likely range of 4.5 to 4.9, so this verdict could change once it is measured.

EarFun Uboom X: $159.99 Discontinued eBay

EarFun Uboom X ranking card

Pros: Tuned by Oluv and he knocked it out of the park again. Deeper bass than the Tribit Stormbox Blast. Extremely neutral, possibly the best of any modern Bluetooth speaker slightly behind the Vifa Helsinki. This is the only speaker that sounds correct at every single volume level due to Oluv’s individual EQ settings at each volume level. Other speakers will need a different EQ at each volume level. Amazing sounding at low levels as it boosts bass and treble at low levels to account for the equal-loudness contour. Just considering the midrange and treble, this speaker is better sounding than the EarFun Uboom L. Measured bass extension of ~38Hz (-10dB).

Cons: The out of the box 0.33 firmware and EQ sounds horrible. Some users have reported sound interruption issues when running two in TWS, though not on every source device, and disabling AAC resolves it where it occurs. Discontinued.

Setup: Please update it using the Earfun app (Android or iOS) and select an Oluv EQ. The Earfun app has sound profiles created by Oluv for Studio, Indoor, Indoor+, Outdoor, Outdoor+, BOOM xxX, and Ground 0 which are all fantastic. Oluv has a newer firmware pack that brings it up a few more notches of neutral

Joy&Oluv'Sone sEARius S1 ranking card

Pros: A compact portable speaker developed with a focus on tonal balance, natural midrange timbre, and smooth frequency response rather than exaggerated commercial bass boost. Custom DSP tuning and dual passive radiators deliver bass extension down to 49Hz (-10dB rolloff, measured from Oluv’s published frequency response chart) despite the small enclosure volume. Supports both horizontal and upright placement, with True Wireless Stereo (TWS) pairing to run two units as a dedicated stereo pair. Durable fabric wrap with integrated carry lanyard. Measured bass extension of 49Hz (-10dB).

Cons: A limited-production model available primarily through direct pre-orders rather than retail distribution. The compact driver size limits maximum clean output and dynamic headroom compared to larger boombox-class speakers, with bass output tapering off at high volumes. Mono output from a single speaker requires pairing a second unit for stereo separation. No independent acoustic measurements have been published.
