MOTU Speaker Rankings and Reviews

Last updated: October 14, 2026

Coverage note. Speaker Ranking currently covers 5 MOTU models across headphone amps and dacs. These are the products in our database, not a complete list of everything MOTU makes.

What this page covers. The MOTU models ranked here span headphone amps and dacs, including MOTU UltraLite-mk5, MOTU M6 and MOTU M2. Use each model’s category position to compare it with alternatives of the same size and use case.

This page lists all 5 MOTU speakers ranked on this site across headphone amps and dacs. Each model is shown in the category where it competes, with its current rank and the size of that ranking.

Use the category position rather than the brand name alone: speakers from the same manufacturer can perform very differently by size, price and product family.

Prices on this page were last checked October 13, 2026 at 3:17 PM UTC. Product prices and availability are accurate as of that date/time and are subject to change; the price and availability shown on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.

Audio Interfaces

Ranked #4 of 17 in Audio Interfaces - MOTU UltraLite-mk5: $699.95 Amazon $699.95 eBay

MOTU UltraLite-mk5 ranking card

Pros: Audio Science Review measured 113 dB SINAD on its ESS based output, clean for nearly all listening. A firmware update fixed the high distortion Audio Science Review first found at 192 kHz sampling, after which the reviewer recommended it. It has a 6.35 mm headphone output in a box 220 mm wide.

Cons: MOTU doesn’t publish a 32 ohm headphone power figure, so its ability to drive demanding headphones is unknown. Audio Science Review also measured intermodulation distortion rising at mid levels, a flaw desktop DACs have largely solved. The MOTU M6 rates the same and measures nearly as clean for less.

MOTU M6 ranking card

Pros: Audio Science Review measured 112 dB SINAD from its ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC, clean for nearly all listening. It offers four XLR/TRS combo inputs for mic, line or instrument, two more balanced line inputs, four balanced TRS outputs, two headphone outputs, MIDI in and out and a hardware volume knob.

Cons: MOTU doesn’t publish a 32 ohm headphone power figure, and Audio Science Review found the headphone output poor into low impedance loads and its recording converter weaker than its DAC. The Topping E2x2 rates higher for much less if you only need two inputs.

MOTU M2 ranking card

Pros: Audio Science Review measured 111 dB SINAD from its ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC, clean for nearly all listening. It has two XLR/TRS combo inputs for mic, line or instrument, balanced TRS monitor outputs with mirrored RCA outputs, MIDI in, level meters and a hardware volume knob, all powered over USB-C.

Cons: MOTU doesn’t publish a 32 ohm headphone power figure, and Audio Science Review judged the headphone amplifier barely adequate on power and the recording converter only adequate. The Topping E2x2 rates higher for less.

MOTU M4 ranking card

Pros: Audio Science Review measured 111 dB SINAD from its ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC, clean for nearly all listening and competitive with good budget DACs. It adds two balanced line inputs to the two XLR/TRS combo inputs, has four balanced TRS outputs with mirrored RCA outputs, MIDI in and a hardware volume knob, and Audio Science Review found its recording converter better than many computer interfaces.

Cons: MOTU doesn’t publish a 32 ohm headphone power figure, and Audio Science Review measured just 18 mW into 300 ohms, calling the headphone amplifier its weakest part, so demanding headphones may run out of volume. The Topping M62 rates higher for less.

Audio Interfaces

Ranked #8 of 17 in Audio Interfaces - MOTU 624: $795 Discontinued eBay

MOTU 624 ranking card

Pros: Audio Science Review measured 112 dB SINAD from its outputs, clean enough for nearly all listening. Alongside two XLR mic inputs and two front panel guitar inputs it has eight channels of ADAT optical in and out for expanding the setup, and the reviewer found its browser based control software rich and flexible.

Cons: It is discontinued and no longer sold new. Audio Science Review found its ADC a weak link next to other interfaces it had tested and its DAC short of the best consumer DACs, and MOTU doesn’t publish a 32 ohm headphone power figure. The MOTU UltraLite-mk5 measures similarly and is still sold.
