43 powered speakers in our rankings have an optical (TOSLINK) digital input, a common way to feed a TV, game console or streaming box into powered speakers without an analog cable run. The digital signal skips the source device’s own headphone or line-out stage, and the connector carries no ground loop the way some analog cabling can.
A speaker’s rank here reflects its measured audio performance, not the presence of this input. If you want an optical input specifically weighed against sound quality rather than just listed, see our curated best powered speakers with an optical input picks instead. For background on this and other connector types, see powered speaker inputs explained.
This is every match, grouped by size and sorted by measured sound quality.

Large Size Powered Desktop Speakers
Ranked #4 of 4 in Large Size Powered Desktop Speakers - B&O Beosound 2: $4,000.00 each Amazon eBay
Pros: A beautifully made, compact Wi-Fi speaker with omnidirectional playback, Chromecast, AirPlay, Bluetooth with AAC/aptX, optical and aux inputs, app EQ, voice control and Beolink multiroom. Reviews praise its even scaling at low volume, spacious room-filling presentation and convincing bass for a single 4.1kg enclosure. Measured bass extension of ~45Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Its bass-forward balance can recess the mids, and its 94dB maximum level is modest for a speaker intended to fill larger spaces. There is no battery or water rating, so this is a mains-powered indoor product; its luxury design and streaming feature set matter more than outright value or neutral hi-fi accuracy.

Small Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers
Ranked #4 of 23 in Small Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Cambridge Audio L/R S: $549.00 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: A 2-way active bookshelf pair built for near-field desktop use, with a 21mm aluminum tweeter and a 3-inch long-throw woofer on each speaker. Erin’s Audio Corner measured a very neutral on-axis response with good directivity control up through the 2-3kHz handoff to the tweeter, an F3 of about 57Hz and F10 of about 50Hz, and output held within roughly plus or minus 2.5dB from 80Hz to 20kHz. Horizontal dispersion of about plus or minus 60 degrees and a vertical window of about plus 30 to minus 20 degrees make it forgiving of off-center desktop seating. Two rear switches (a desktop-placement compensation switch and a near-wall/free-space switch) plus in-app DSP for room size, wall distance, and reflective surface type let you tune the in-room response rather than just hoping placement works out, and the reviewer noted an audible tightening of the bass moving between room-size settings. Rear connectivity includes RCA, optical digital, USB-C, and a dedicated subwoofer output. Measured bass extension of 57Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Maximum clean output is limited: Erin’s Audio Corner measured about 86dB before the onboard limiter engages around 96dB to protect the drivers, so this is a near-field or small-room speaker rather than one built to fill a living room. Each speaker’s Class D amplifier splits only 50W to the woofer and 50W to the tweeter, modest for the class. The DSP room-correction options are preset-based rather than a true microphone-measured calibration at the listening position, so results depend on picking settings that match your actual room.

Ranked #12 of 23 in Small Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Monacor SOUND-4BT: $310 per pair LTT Versand eBay
Pros: The available measurements suggest useful bass for its size, with a -3dB point around 61Hz, and a fairly small 2.8dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz. Optical and analog inputs, Bluetooth, remote control and a subwoofer output make it versatile for a compact stereo setup.
Cons: Predicted in-room response remains uneven despite the modest midrange span. A subwoofer can add bass reach but does not correct the remaining tonal variations.

Ranked #13 of 23 in Small Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Kanto YU4: $479.99 per pair Kanto eBay
Pros: Phono, optical and Bluetooth inputs, remote control and a subwoofer output make it convenient for a compact multi-source system. ASR’s measured horizontal coverage is broad enough for some freedom of seating position. The ideal-subwoofer preference score of 5.09 indicates that bass support would materially improve its usefulness.
Cons: Standalone preference is only 2.15, with a -3dB point around 86Hz and a 4.2dB midrange response span. Response irregularities remain even after bass extension is removed from the comparison, so a subwoofer alone will not make it neutral. Sensitivity measured at an arbitrary powered-speaker gain setting is not a reliable basis for judging efficiency or maximum volume.

Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers
Ranked #5 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Reflector Audio Square Two: $6,499 per pair Monheim Microphones eBay
Pros: The manufacturer-supplied data shows a very small 1.1dB span from 300Hz to 5kHz and preference scores of 5.73 standalone and 7.54 with an ideal subwoofer. Its horn-centered layout and four surrounding woofers offer a compact, controlled-radiation monitor, with a measured -3dB point around 49Hz. The linked Sound on Sound review also supports its use for detailed monitoring.
Cons: The nominal 60-by-60-degree pattern calls for careful aiming and gives less freedom to move than wide-dispersion monitors.

Ranked #9 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Devialet Phantom II 98 dB: $2,998 per pair Devialet eBay
Pros: The manufacturer-supplied measurement shows unusually deep bass for the enclosure size: -3dB at 30Hz. Scores of 6.07 standalone and 7.15 with an ideal subwoofer suggest that its appeal is not limited to bass quantity. Integrated amplification and network playback can replace several components, and its 2.3dB midrange response span is reasonably even. Measured bass extension of 30Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Small-enclosure bass extension at the measurement level does not guarantee the same response at high volume. Stereo requires two units, and the integrated architecture offers less system flexibility than conventional monitors.

Ranked #12 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Klipsch The Fives: $699 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: In the tested Bass Cut mode, Erin’s Klippel data gives preference scores of 4.62 standalone and 6.98 with an ideal subwoofer, with a 2.7dB midrange response span. That mode offers considerably better tonal balance than the bass-heavy default behavior. HDMI ARC, phono/line input, digital inputs and subwoofer output make it a versatile stereo alternative to a soundbar. Measured bass extension of 57Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The favorable score specifically requires Bass Cut mode; it does not describe every firmware or bass setting. Bass reaches -3dB around 59Hz in that configuration. The review reports increasing compression around 200Hz and below 80Hz as volume rises, reducing bass dynamics. Careful placement and a subwoofer remain useful, and the horn/woofer transition is not perfectly uniform off-axis.

Ranked #14 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - KEF LS50 Wireless II: $2,999.00 per pair Amazon KEF Crutchfield eBay
Pros: Erin’s measurements give preference scores of 4.52 standalone and 6.59 with an ideal subwoofer, with a -3dB point around 51Hz. The coincident Uni-Q layout helps preserve tonal consistency across horizontal and vertical listening positions. Low listening-window narrow-band deviation of 0.308 supports relatively clean midrange reproduction. HDMI eARC and streaming functions make it a capable all-in-one stereo system. Measured bass extension of 51.3Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The 3.0dB response span is good but not reference-leading, and dispersion still varies with frequency. Compact bass drivers limit deep-bass output. App placement adjustments are not the same as microphone-based automatic room correction. The price and primary/secondary architecture are practical trade-offs; neither driver geometry nor a single directivity statistic guarantees the best sound in every room.

Ranked #15 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Vanatoo Transparent One Encore Plus: $699.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Erin’s Klippel data combines a small 1.7dB midrange response span with a -3dB point around 44Hz. Scores of 4.68 standalone and 6.49 with an ideal subwoofer make it an attractive standalone system as well as a subwoofer partner. Remote tone controls, multiple digital and analog inputs, and automatic subwoofer crossover engagement simplify setup. Measured bass extension of 42Hz (-3dB).
Cons: A mild 4-6kHz edge and a smaller 1-2kHz recession were audible in the review, so its smooth midrange summary does not mean there is nothing to improve with EQ. No HDMI ARC. Deep bass and louder playback still benefit from a subwoofer; amplifier wattage alone does not establish clean room-filling output.

Ranked #17 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Sigberg Audio SBS Gen 2: $18,043.20 for the full system (2 speakers + 2 dedicated subwoofers, built to order) Sigberg Audio eBay
Pros: The measured speaker-and-subwoofer system has a 1.7dB midrange response span and a 6.74 ideal-subwoofer preference score, supporting useful tonal accuracy above the bass region. The measured system reaches -3dB around 34Hz. Onboard parametric EQ and dedicated amplification provide flexible integration for a complete high-performance setup. Measured bass extension of 24Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The measured system explicitly includes a subwoofer: its 5.78 full-system score and bass extension must not be attributed to the bookshelf speaker alone. It is not directly equivalent to the standalone-monitor tests around it. The complete system is expensive and occupies more space than the main speakers suggest; the score alone does not prove superior output or room performance.

Ranked #22 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Sigberg Audio SBS.1: Discontinued eBay
Pros: The 6.26 preference score with an ideal subwoofer is the relevant tonal comparison for this subwoofer-dependent design. Manufacturer-supplied data shows a 2.0dB midrange response span, and onboard parametric EQ offers substantial system-tuning flexibility. It is intended as a main speaker in a complete system rather than a conventional full-range desktop pair.
Cons: The measured -3dB point is around 97Hz and the standalone score is 2.97, reflecting the requirement for a companion subwoofer rather than an unexpectedly weak full-range design. It is discontinued, so condition and system compatibility matter when buying used. Discontinued.

Ranked #25 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Airpulse A100: $999.99 per pair Amazon B&H Photo Video eBay
Pros: ASR’s Klippel data gives a 2.9dB midrange span and scores of 3.66 standalone and 6.18 with an ideal subwoofer. The ribbon tweeter and five-inch woofer provide a distinctive compact powered system, with remote control and a subwoofer output simplifying everyday use. Measured bass extension of 63.0Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Bass reaches -3dB around 63Hz, so lower notes need a subwoofer for full weight. Listening-window narrow-band deviation of 0.419 shows more local tonal variation than the leading monitors. Rear tone controls are less flexible than parametric EQ or room correction. Neither the ribbon tweeter nor a directivity-index summary establishes uniquely wide or perfectly controlled dispersion.

Ranked #26 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - KEF LSX II LT: $429.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: The coincident driver provides useful consistency across listening positions, and the app offers placement and subwoofer adjustments. Erin’s measurements give preference scores of 3.93 standalone and 6.16 with an ideal subwoofer, with -3dB bass around 56Hz. HDMI and USB connectivity make it convenient for a small TV or desktop system. Measured bass extension of 55Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 84dB.
Cons: The 3.4dB midrange response span and treble-region dips keep it below more neutral monitors. The existing review finds bass compression around 88-92dB/1m and rising distortion at higher levels, so the small drivers suit close listening rather than a large room. This LT version has no analog input; a turntable cannot plug straight into it.

Ranked #29 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Kanto YU6: $579.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: ASR’s measurements give preference scores of 3.37 standalone and 5.98 with an ideal subwoofer, stronger than several smaller lifestyle pairs. Phono input, optical connections and remote control make it useful for a simple multi-source system. The overall response trend is close to level rather than strongly tilted.
Cons: Local response variation remains despite the mild overall tilt: the midrange span is 3.8dB and listening-window narrow-band deviation is 0.419. Bass reaches -3dB around 75Hz, so the preference model’s 58Hz LFX value should not be quoted as full-level bass extension. A subwoofer improves bandwidth but does not remove tonal irregularities.

Ranked #33 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Vanatoo Transparent Zero Plus: $499.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Erin’s data shows a small 1.7dB span from 300Hz to 5kHz and a broadly level midrange trend. Scores of 3.18 standalone and 5.84 with an ideal subwoofer support it as a useful compact desktop option. Flexible cabinet orientation, multiple inputs and automatic subwoofer crossover behavior help with setup. Measured bass extension of 92Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 88.5dB.
Cons: The measured -3dB point is around 95Hz, with a much lower F10 in the original review; this is not flat bass to the low-50Hz region. Vertical listening angle changes the upper-midrange response. The review finds cleaner results at moderate levels than near maximum output, where multitone distortion increases. A subwoofer is particularly valuable here.

Ranked #34 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Neumi BS5P-ARC: $219.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Erin’s selected measurements give a 2.6dB midrange span and a 6.13 ideal-subwoofer preference score, indicating better tonal performance above the bass than its former near-bottom position suggested. HDMI ARC makes it a convenient low-cost TV stereo system.
Cons: The standalone score drops to 2.94. The published response reaches -3dB around 113Hz and -6dB around 83Hz, so bass balance is a significant limitation in that measured configuration. It is not the same model or dataset as the original BS5P. The score alone cannot establish clean output, and a subwoofer should not be assumed to solve crossover or room-integration issues automatically.

Ranked #35 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Neumi BS5P: $150 per pair Discontinued eBay
Pros: Erin’s retest with corrected tweeter polarity, updated internal EQ and plugged ports gives a much more neutral result: 3.96 standalone and 6.95 with an ideal subwoofer, with a 2.7dB midrange span. The reviewer also found that configuration substantially better in listening. Its analog and digital inputs make it a flexible inexpensive system. Measured bass extension of 90.8Hz (-3dB).
Cons: That result is conditional on the tested firmware and port configuration, not a guarantee for an unknown stock or used pair. The first sample had reversed tweeter polarity, so its poor initial result should not be generalized to every unit either. Plugged-port bass reaches -3dB around 91Hz. Confirm configuration before expecting the improved balance; tonal scores do not remove output limits. Discontinued.

Ranked #38 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Onkyo GX-30ARC: $349 per pair Onkyo eBay
Pros: HDMI ARC, USB-C, optical and analog inputs make it a convenient compact system for a desk or TV. Erin’s Klippel data gives a 2.82 standalone preference score and 5.55 with an ideal subwoofer. The midrange response spans 3.8dB, offering usable but not reference-level tonal performance.
Cons: The response rises toward the treble by about 0.48dB per octave. Bass reaches -3dB around 74Hz, not the lower LFX value used inside the preference model. Vertical listening position affects crossover balance. Its extensive connectivity does not compensate for response irregularities, and the published tonal data alone does not establish maximum clean output.

Pros: The available digitized response suggests substantial bass reach, with a -3dB estimate around 41Hz. Scores are 3.58 standalone and 5.34 with an ideal subwoofer. Digital inputs and a self-contained stereo-pair format are convenient for general music listening.
Cons: The 4.0dB midrange span and uneven predicted room response suggest meaningful coloration. Favorable modeled EQ results should not be treated as the sound of the stock speaker or as proof that all dispersion issues are correctable.

Ranked #51 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Audioengine HD6: $817.44 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Analog and optical inputs, RCA output and built-in amplification provide a convenient self-contained stereo setup. The cabinet and driver size can be practical for general music listening without assembling a separate amplifier system.
Cons: Listening impressions describe bass and treble emphasis with a recessed midrange, which may suit casual listening better than neutral monitoring.

Ranked #52 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Edifier R2000DB: $399.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Multiple analog inputs and optical connectivity make it convenient for a simple powered stereo system. It can suit general desktop listening when source flexibility matters more than professional monitoring functions.
Cons: Listening impressions suggest a midrange-forward presentation. It is better suited to a simple home stereo setup than a studio workflow requiring balanced inputs.

Ranked #53 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Edifier S1000W: $499.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Network playback and multiple digital and analog connections make it a convenient all-in-one music system. Support for high-resolution input is useful for compatibility with different sources.
Cons: High-resolution input support does not itself improve acoustic accuracy. The all-in-one format offers less component flexibility than separate speakers and amplification.

Ranked #54 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Edifier S1000MKII: $399.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: A self-powered stereo pair with optical, coaxial and analog inputs, plus high-resolution digital support, makes source switching unusually simple. Consumer Reports rates its sound accurate and detailed, so it is a strong one-box alternative to separate amplifier-and-speaker systems for nearfield or small-room listening.
Cons: High-resolution input support is not a guarantee of perfect tuning, and the fixed internal amplification prevents the gradual upgrades possible with separates. These are mains-powered speakers rather than portable wireless speakers, and their size and left/right cabling need a planned desktop or stand setup.

Ranked #55 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Kali Audio IN-UNF: $699 per pair Kali Audio eBay
Pros: A specialized ultra-nearfield system with coaxial satellites and an opposed-woofer bass module designed to sit on the desk. Erin found it worked much better when positioned using Kali’s placement template, with useful agreement between the intended response and close-range moving-microphone measurements. DSP placement controls and varied inputs make it a thoughtful solution for the right desk.
Cons: The intended desk geometry is part of the acoustic design. The bass module and prescribed spacing occupy considerable desk space and may conflict with large monitors. It is not designed for arbitrary room placement.

Ranked #58 of 65 in Medium Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Edifier R1280DB: $159.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Optical/coaxial inputs and Bluetooth add practical flexibility over the analog R1280T, while remote and tone controls simplify everyday listening. It is a convenient inexpensive stereo system rather than a separate amplifier-and-speaker setup. Measured bass extension of 80Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The compact format is better suited to nearfield listening than high-volume playback across a large room. Basic tone controls offer less flexibility than parametric equalization.

Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers
Ranked #1 of 67 in Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - AsciLab C8C: $6,200 per pair Audiophonics eBay
Pros: ASR’s revised measurement combines an 8.02 ideal-subwoofer preference score with a 1.7dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz, supporting highly even vocal and instrumental balance. Bass reaches 30.8Hz at -3dB and 23.4Hz at -6dB, giving substantial low-end reach without an added subwoofer. Measured bass extension of 30.8Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The result applies to the revised measured configuration; confirm that the speaker’s tuning matches it. Each cabinet weighs about 27.5kg and needs a substantial stand. Deep extension and excellent tonality do not guarantee unlimited bass output or eliminate the need to adjust placement.

Ranked #21 of 67 in Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - SHIVAUDYO Point Zero: €6,500 per pair Shivaudyo eBay
Pros: Measured -3dB extension of 31.5Hz and a 6.78 ideal-subwoofer score combine useful bass with broadly balanced sound. Cardioid control through the low midrange reduces some rearward energy, and selectable bass presets let the listener trade extension for headroom. Measured bass extension of 31Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 92.9dB.
Cons: Cardioid control begins around 200Hz rather than extending through all deep bass. Listening height can change vocal weight, and the measured 2.0dB midband span does not capture every directional variation. The deepest bass preset sacrifices output, so its nominal cutoff is not a clean-SPL guarantee.

Ranked #28 of 67 in Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - JBL 4305P: $2,200 per pair Amazon JBL eBay
Pros: The measured 1.5dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz supports even mids, with a 6.54 ideal-subwoofer score and 45.4Hz -3dB bass extension. Integrated consumer connectivity makes this a more convenient living-room system than many studio monitors. Measured bass extension of 45Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Crossover-region directivity changes mean the narrow on-axis span does not describe every listening angle. Limiting becomes relevant at high output, particularly with bass-heavy music. It suits near- to midfield listening better than the largest high-output systems here.

Ranked #39 of 67 in Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Klipsch The Nines: $999.99 per pair Crutchfield eBay
Pros: The 1.7dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz supports even mids, and measured -3dB extension is 42.5Hz. Extensive consumer connections and app adjustment make it convenient for TV and music, while the horn provides a focused listening presentation. Measured bass extension of 41Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 82.5dB.
Cons: The 5.99 ideal-subwoofer score reflects limitations beyond the narrow midband span. Horizontal coverage is relatively focused, so placement matters for multiple seats. The reviewer preferred reduced treble, and bass limiting at higher playback levels means the large woofer is not a guarantee of unlimited output.

Ranked #44 of 67 in Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - JBL 4329P: $4,500 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Measured -3dB extension of 32.2Hz provides deeper native bass than the smaller 4305P. Integrated amplification and streaming make it convenient for a full-range living-room system, and its larger format is useful when scale matters. Measured bass extension of 31Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 102.2dB.
Cons: The measured 4.5dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz includes a notable midrange dip, so it is not as neutral as its size and price might suggest. Its 5.83 ideal-subwoofer score trails the 4305P. There is no HDMI connection for the simplest TV hookup.

Ranked #47 of 67 in Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Cambridge Audio L/R X: $2,399.00 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: A 2.5-way active design with a 28mm aluminum tweeter, a front-facing 5-inch mid-woofer, a second 5-inch woofer at the base whose passband overlaps the first (the source of the “.5”), and dual 6-inch side-firing passive radiators per speaker. Erin’s Audio Corner measured wide, even horizontal dispersion (a broad flare out to about the -6dB point around 1.5 to 3kHz) and deeper extension than the smaller L/R S, with an F3 of about 43Hz and F10 of about 37Hz. In-app DSP for room size, speaker distance from the front wall, and reflective surface type gave an audible change in bass tightness in testing. Connectivity covers HDMI eARC, RCA aux, a moving-magnet phono input, optical digital, USB-C, USB-A, Wi-Fi streaming, and a subwoofer output, making it a full living-room hub rather than just a stereo pair. Measured bass extension of 43Hz (-3dB).
Cons: On-axis response is less linear than the L/R S, with dips in the bass, a peak around 1-2kHz, and a dip spanning the upper mid-range into the lower treble; Cambridge confirmed the dip is a deliberate DSP notch for a tweeter breakup resonance rather than a driver flaw, but it was audible as a mild suck-out in an AB pink-noise comparison. Vertical dispersion is narrower and asymmetric than the L/R S, at about plus 20 to minus 10 degrees, because the greater distance between the tweeter and mid-woofer creates more lobing, so listening height and stand placement matter more. Multitone distortion rides close to the 3% threshold at 96dB measured at 1 meter in the far field, limiting headroom for loud, wide-band material. Output falls off quickly below about 50Hz, so home-theater use with deep bass content benefits from an added subwoofer.

Ranked #60 of 67 in Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Edifier R2850DB: $499.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: A large self-powered three-way pair with digital and analog source switching and proper left/right separation. Consumer Reports found accurate, detailed sound with strong, deep bass, a broad enough soundfield and enough clean output for a large room. It is a compelling simple system for TV, desktop or living-room music without buying a separate amplifier.
Cons: The big cabinets need real stand or furniture space, and their bass is slightly boomy. Consumer Reports also hears mildly grainy/hazy mids, subdued treble and a two-dimensional image despite the two cabinets. As an integrated system it is less upgradeable than separate passive speakers and an amplifier.

Ranked #64 of 67 in Large Size Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Klipsch The Sevens: $999.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Pros: Erin reported 49Hz -3dB extension, with useful bass for ordinary music listening. HDMI, phono, USB, optical and Bluetooth connections make the system convenient for TV and music, while app controls and a subwoofer output provide adjustment options. Measured bass extension of 49Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The review found a recessed 2-4kHz region and upper-treble emphasis, producing a scooped balance that a simple treble reduction did not fully fix. Relatively narrow horizontal coverage limits consistency across seats.

Large Size Powered Floorstanding Speakers
Ranked #1 of 6 in Large Size Powered Floorstanding Speakers - KEF LS60: $5,999.99 per pair Amazon Crutchfield eBay
Pros: Erin’s on-axis measurement combines a 1.9dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz with a 7.22 ideal-subwoofer preference score, supporting even vocal and instrumental balance. Extended-mode bass reaches roughly 25Hz at -3dB. The coaxial Uni-Q arrangement maintains unusually consistent tonality across listening positions, while HDMI, digital and analog inputs plus network streaming make this a convenient complete music and TV system. Measured bass extension of 23Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 97.7dB.
Cons: A diffraction dip around 9kHz can soften cymbal shimmer when aimed directly at the listener; 10-20 degrees of toe-out helps. DSP limiting reduces bass reach and dynamic output at high volume, so its deep low-level extension is not a promise of the same performance on loud peaks. App placement and tone controls are less flexible than parametric room correction. Each roughly 31kg tower is awkward to move.

Ranked #3 of 6 in Large Size Powered Floorstanding Speakers - Pitt & Giblin Superwax: $16,500 per pair Pitt & Giblin eBay
Pros: The published DSP-adjusted manufacturer measurement combines 26.2Hz -3dB extension with an 8.19 ideal-subwoofer preference score and a smooth predicted room-response trend. Dual 15-inch woofers and a separate 10-inch midrange provide a substantial full-range architecture. Digital and analog inputs, remote volume control and three voicing profiles make the active system flexible despite its size.
Cons: The measured 2.3dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz leaves more local midrange variation than the Superwax Mini; a level overall slope is not a perfectly flat response. Results apply to the measured DSP tuning, not every profile. At about 92kg and one metre wide per speaker, installation and room space are major considerations.

Ranked #4 of 6 in Large Size Powered Floorstanding Speakers - Pitt & Giblin Superwax Mini: $9,800 per pair Pitt & Giblin eBay
Pros: The published DSP-adjusted manufacturer measurement shows a 1.2dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz and a 7.98 ideal-subwoofer preference score, supporting natural vocal balance. Bass reaches 30.9Hz at -3dB. The 15-inch woofer, bronze waveguide and built-in amplification provide a substantial two-way system with both digital and analog connections.
Cons: The Mini gives up some deep-bass reach compared with the full Superwax. Its low cabinet height makes the supplied tilt feet and listening position important. At 40kg per speaker and 460mm wide, it is still a large installation. The quoted response describes the measured DSP tuning; alternate voicing profiles change the balance.

Ranked #5 of 6 in Large Size Powered Floorstanding Speakers - Buchardt A700: $6,600 per pair Buchardt Audio eBay
Pros: The standard tuning measures a 1.8dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz and scores 6.87 with an ideal subwoofer. Low midrange multitone distortion supports clean reproduction at ordinary listening levels. Selectable Master Tunings include cardioid operation for near-wall placement, while an optional Platin hub adds streaming and useful room and manual EQ. Measured bass extension of 51Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Standard-mode bass crosses -3dB around 51Hz but continues to -6dB around 26Hz; it is not flat to the deepest advertised frequencies. Cardioid tuning changes that balance and bass reach substantially. The roughly +/-50-degree horizontal presentation is more focused than wider-radiating alternatives, and vertical listening height needs care. DSP limiting constrains loud full-range playback; a subwoofer with high-pass filtering can improve headroom.

Ranked #6 of 6 in Large Size Powered Floorstanding Speakers - B&O Beolab20: $15000 per pair Discontinued Bang-olufsen eBay
Pros: ASR measured bass reaching about 20Hz in a relatively compact enclosure, giving substantial low-end weight without a separate subwoofer. Distortion at ordinary listening levels is respectable for the size. Built-in amplification and Free/Wall/Corner adjustment simplify integration into a compatible home system. Measured bass extension of 20Hz (-3dB).
Cons: A 4.88 ideal-subwoofer preference score shows that deep bass does not compensate for the tonal flaws. A roughly 5dB dip near 7kHz and uneven vertical response make treble balance sensitive to ear height. Midrange distortion rises at higher playback levels, with resonance-related problems around 700-800Hz and 5kHz. Difficult to recommend for neutral monitoring at its premium price. Discontinued.
