Pros: Better on-axis linearity than the Manta (spinorama nbd_on_axis 0.452 versus 0.486) and better in-room smoothness (sm_pred_in_room 0.347 versus 0.262), giving it a higher preference score independent of bass extension (pref_score 2.97 versus 2.48). Distinctive 4-way coaxial design with dual 5.5” midbass drivers flanking a coincident 1” tweeter for time-aligned output. Active 3-channel Hypex nCore Class D amplification (350W per speaker) with a 9-band parametric EQ and factory presets.
Cons: The widest listening-window deviation of Sigberg’s three active monitors (nbd_listening_window 0.416, versus 0.386 for the Manta and 0.403 for the SBS Gen 2), meaning off-center seats hear more tonal shift than with either. Trails the SBS Gen 2 by a wide margin on every preference-rating metric (pref_score 2.97 versus 5.78). Discontinued and sold out, replaced by the SBS Gen 2. Requires a separate subwoofer purchase to reach its full-range spec; the standalone unit’s own on-axis measurement extends only to about 84Hz. Discontinued.
