Bose S1 Pro+ vs Sony SRS-XV500

Last updated: October 10, 2026

These are not really the same size class, and that is the honest framing here. The Bose S1 Pro+ ranks #6 of 15 battery-powered PA speakers by sound quality at $699; the Sony SRS-XV500 ranks #16 of 46 party speakers by sound quality at $299.

Bose S1 Pro+ vs Sony SRS-XV500

The case for the Bose S1 Pro+: Extremely compact and light with flexible placement options, and very loud for its size. The tradeoff: Leans toward a bright sound signature, and its bass bottoms out as the volume rises, so full range music suffers well before maximum loudness.

The Sony SRS-XV500 is the longer-running, tougher option. RTINGS measured a slightly warm sound with plenty of bass punch, and found it gets very loud for outdoor parties. It is rated for 25 hours of battery against 11 for the Bose S1 Pro+. It is rated IPX4, while the Bose S1 Pro+ has no water resistance. Watch for: RTINGS measured poor directivity, so the sound changes noticeably as you move off to the sides.

Buy the Bose S1 Pro+ at $699 for a battery-powered PA speaker, or the Sony SRS-XV500 at $299 for a party speaker instead.

Older model: the Bose S1 Pro (ranked lower, rated 4/5). See every Bose S1 Pro generation.

Pros: Extremely compact and light with flexible placement options, and very loud for its size. Three-channel mixer (2 XLR/quarter-inch combo mic-instrument + 1 line/Bluetooth), each with its own OLED display for quick treble/bass/reverb adjustment. Auto EQ adjusts sound based on orientation. Multiple angled surfaces for various positioning including tilted portrait mode, plus a line out to daisy-chain a second unit. Optional WT-XLR/WT-INST wireless transmitters dock, pair, and charge right in the speaker for a cable-free mic or instrument. Up to 11 hours battery life. High efficiency drivers reach 2-3x the volume of typical speakers for the same wattage. Measured bass extension of 62Hz (-3dB).

Cons: Leans toward a bright sound signature, and its bass bottoms out as the volume rises, so full range music suffers well before maximum loudness. Better suited for voice and instrument amplification than for casual music listening. Treble is pretty boosted. Not stereo. Designed for more loudness than deeper bass. Ports are fully exposed with no water resistance. Charges via a less common three-prong AC cable instead of the two-prong barrel cable most rivals use.

Sony SRS-XV500 ranking card

Older models: the Sony SRS-XP500 (ranked higher, rated 4/5) and the Sony GTK-XB60 (ranked lower, rated 2.1/5). See every Sony GTK, XP and XV generation.

Pros: RTINGS measured a slightly warm sound with plenty of bass punch, and found it gets very loud for outdoor parties. Two 140mm woofers and two 60mm tweeters in a bass reflex cabinet, with a claimed 25 hours of battery life and a 10 minute quick charge for about 2.5 hours of play. Two 6.3mm inputs switch between microphone and guitar, with karaoke controls for key, echo and per-input volume, plus a 3.5mm aux input. IPX4 splash resistance and built-in lighting.

Cons: RTINGS measured poor directivity, so the sound changes noticeably as you move off to the sides. Bass compresses and pumps as you approach maximum volume. At 11.2 kg it is heavy to carry, and IPX4 only covers splashes.
