#7 Bose S1 Pro: $599 Discontinued eBay
Newer model: the Bose S1 Pro+, ranked higher, rated 4.1/5, released Jul 2023. See every Bose S1 Pro generation.
Pros: Sounds cleaner and more hi-fi than the Mackie Thump Go and JBL Eon One Compact at low and moderate volume, the best sound quality of the three in W. Weiss’s shootout. Very compact and lighter than those rivals, with a 6 inch woofer and three 2.25 inch drivers, Auto EQ that adapts to its orientation, ToneMatch presets and built in reverb on the two mic/instrument channels. An 11 hour battery, Bluetooth with Bose Connect party mode, a line out to chain a second speaker and several placement angles make it a flexible small gig or busking speaker. Measured bass extension of 62Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Peaks at about 109 dB, roughly 3 dB quieter than the Mackie Thump Go and far below the Electro-Voice Everse 8, and with full range music it becomes distorted above two thirds volume. There is little real low end, and the Everse 8 digs much deeper, so it is better suited to voice and acoustic instruments than to DJ or party use. Treble is boosted and it is not stereo. Ports are fully exposed with no water resistance. Discontinued.
