Bose S1 Pro+ vs Sony SRS-XV800

Last updated: October 10, 2026

Different classes, so treat this as a step-up-or-not question rather than a head-to-head. The Bose S1 Pro+ ranks #6 of 15 battery-powered PA speakers by sound quality at $699; the Sony SRS-XV800 ranks #13 of 46 party speakers by sound quality at $648.

Bose S1 Pro+ vs Sony SRS-XV800

What the Bose S1 Pro+ does well: Extremely compact and light with flexible placement options, and very loud for its size. Watch for: Leans toward a bright sound signature, and its bass bottoms out as the volume rises, so full range music suffers well before maximum loudness.

The Sony SRS-XV800 is the longer-running, tougher pick. Dual 170mm square X-Balanced woofers deliver punchy bass extending down to 35Hz (-10dB) with MEGA BASS engaged. It is rated for 25 hours of battery against 11 for the Bose S1 Pro+. It is rated IPX4 (vertical) / IPX2 (horizontal), while the Bose S1 Pro+ has no water resistance. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Bose S1 Pro+ lacks. The catch: High mass at 40.8 lbs (18.5 kg) makes transport cumbersome despite wheels.

Buy the Bose S1 Pro+ at $699 if you want a battery-powered PA speaker. Buy the Sony SRS-XV800 at $648 if you want a party speaker instead.

Older model: the Bose S1 Pro (ranked lower, rated 4/5). See every Bose S1 Pro generation.

Pros: Extremely compact and light with flexible placement options, and very loud for its size. Three-channel mixer (2 XLR/quarter-inch combo mic-instrument + 1 line/Bluetooth), each with its own OLED display for quick treble/bass/reverb adjustment. Auto EQ adjusts sound based on orientation. Multiple angled surfaces for various positioning including tilted portrait mode, plus a line out to daisy-chain a second unit. Optional WT-XLR/WT-INST wireless transmitters dock, pair, and charge right in the speaker for a cable-free mic or instrument. Up to 11 hours battery life. High efficiency drivers reach 2-3x the volume of typical speakers for the same wattage. Measured bass extension of 62Hz (-3dB).

Cons: Leans toward a bright sound signature, and its bass bottoms out as the volume rises, so full range music suffers well before maximum loudness. Better suited for voice and instrument amplification than for casual music listening. Treble is pretty boosted. Not stereo. Designed for more loudness than deeper bass. Ports are fully exposed with no water resistance. Charges via a less common three-prong AC cable instead of the two-prong barrel cable most rivals use.

Sony SRS-XV800 ranking card

Newer model: the Sony ULT Tower 7, ranked higher, rated 4.7/5, released Sep 2026. Battery life goes from 25 to 30 hours. See every Sony XB and ULT generation.

Pros: Dual 170mm square X-Balanced woofers deliver punchy bass extending down to 35Hz (-10dB) with MEGA BASS engaged. An omnidirectional array of five tweeters (three front 60mm and two rear 40mm) creates expansive, room-filling high frequencies. Battery provides up to 25 hours with a 10-minute quick charge giving 3 hours of playback. Connects via Bluetooth 5.2 (LDAC, AAC, SBC), optical audio with TV Sound Booster, dual 6.3mm mic/guitar inputs for karaoke, USB playback/charging and 3.5mm aux. Built-in wheels and handle make the 18.5 kg cabinet transportable.

Cons: High mass at 18.5 kg makes transport cumbersome despite wheels. IPX4 splash resistance (when upright; IPX2 horizontal) offers no protection against submersion. Multiple tweeters produce minor off-axis comb filtering.
