5 ranked speakers support LC3, the codec behind Bluetooth LE Audio and the foundation Auracast is built on. It’s more efficient than SBC at low bitrates, but the short list here reflects how new it still is on speakers rather than any downside - expect this list to grow as more chipsets ship with LE Audio support.
See Bluetooth codecs explained for why codec choice matters far less on a speaker than on headphones, and what actually does move the needle.

Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Small Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Ranked #24 of 47 in Small Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers, last listed at $39.95 - JBL Go 5: $39.95 Amazon eBay
Pros: IP68 rating, up from the Go 4’s IP67. AirTouch tap-to-pair stereo linking. 7-band custom app EQ, up from the Go 4’s 5-band. USB-C wired audio input.
Cons: Still overpriced for what it delivers, not very different from the Go 4 besides the lights. Still lacking bass and not very clear overall. Mono downmixing produces an audible growling artifact, the same issue noted on the JBL Charge 6. Falls well short of similarly priced rivals like the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. Weak off-axis dispersion and an uneven, upper-mid-heavy tonal balance. Doesn’t get meaningfully louder at max volume, just harsher.

Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Ranked #25 of 142 in Medium Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers, last listed at $38.59 - Bogasing G4: $38.59 Amazon eBay
Pros: Clear sound with punchy bass, exceptional 24-hour battery life, IPX7 waterproof, multiple sound modes for different music styles, dual pairing support
Cons: Some boosted treble that’s wavy up top. Slightly dipped mids. Super Bass and vocal mode seem identical.

Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Ranked #2 of 77 in Large Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers, last listed at $399.95 - JBL Xtreme 5: $399.95 Amazon B&H Photo Video eBay
Pros: Removable battery. Quite deep bass, reaching well below 40Hz. A fantastic sounding speaker with excellent off-axis dispersion, a big step up from older JBL portables. Beats the Soundcore Boom 2 and Tribit Stormbox Blast on bass depth and clarity. Plays clean at volume, unlike the JBL Boombox 4.
Cons: High priced. Some bass boost. A hole in the mid-upper bass which can’t be EQ’d out. Default EQ presets are weak (Signature is boring, Chill and Vocal are close to unusable) - needs the custom EQ to sound its best. Bigger and heavier than the Xtreme 4.
Setup: Try this Oluv EQ for the most neutral sound

Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Ranked #19 of 75 in Boombox Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers, last listed at $549.95 - JBL Boombox 4: $549.95 Amazon B&H Photo Video eBay
Pros: Pretty insane output capability for the size.
Cons: Pretty overpriced for the category. Better than the Boombox 3 mostly because there are more 7 EQ bands instead of just 3 and it can be better tuned. Try Oluv’s EQ for it. Out of the box sounds worse than the Boombox 3. No Aux input.

Large Party Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Ranked #11 of 11 in Large Party Size Portable Bluetooth Speakers, last listed at $1,299.99 - Marshall Bromley 750: $1,299.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: Much wider, more consistent off-axis dispersion than the JBL Partybox 720, which only fires forward - the Marshall’s standout feature, sounding about the same from any angle.
Cons: Not as deep bass as the JBL Partybox 330 or JBL Partybox 720. Not a great frequency response overall, with some midrange peaks. Only basic bass/treble controls, no full custom EQ like the JBL Partybox 720’s app. Default bass (dynamic mode) is overdone out of the box and needs trimming.
