These are not really the same size class, and that is the honest framing here. The Soundcore Boom 2 ranks #10 of 114 large speakers by sound quality at $99.99; the Soundcore Motion Boom+ ranks #70 of 111 boombox speakers by sound quality at $122.42.

The Soundcore Boom 2 is the lighter option. A light, waterproof large speaker with deep bass for its size, a 24 hour battery and fun lighting. At 3.7 lbs (1.68 kg) it weighs noticeably less than the Soundcore Motion Boom+ at 5.3 lbs (2.4 kg). Watch for: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters.
The Soundcore Motion Boom+ is the louder option. A rugged, waterproof stereo speaker that floats, with a 20 hour battery and app EQ. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 108dB at full volume, against 105dB for the Soundcore Boom 2. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Soundcore Boom 2 lacks. Watch for: Default presets are all warm sounding with rolled off treble.
Worth knowing: the Soundcore Motion Boom+ has been discontinued and is hard to find new at this point. The Soundcore Motion Boom+’s replacement, the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus, is still sold new.
Buy the Soundcore Boom 2 at $99.99 if you want a large speaker. Buy the Soundcore Motion Boom+ at $122.42 if you want a boombox speaker instead.
