Short answer: the Stormbox Lava, and $10 buys a real jump. These rank #3 and #10 out of 75 large speakers, at $100 and $89.99 - about as close as two prices get while the ranking gap stays this wide.
The Lava reaches deeper, and more cleanly. Our own sound-sample comparison has the Lava going lower than the Boom 2, and firmware 2.0.0 brought a real neutrality improvement on top of that. The Boom 2’s stock tuning is bass-boosted with rising treble - good enough for a #24 ranking on its own, which is where it would sit without a corrected EQ.
Both need that EQ to reach their published rank, which is worth knowing before you buy either: the Boom 2 wants Oluv’s or Alan Ross’s preset with BassUp turned off, and the Lava’s out-of-the-box tuning has some low-end boost and treble peaks of its own.
Where the Boom 2 wins: it’s genuinely lighter, 1.68 kg against 2.37 kg, and comes with a bundled PartyCast 2.0 multi-speaker mode the Lava doesn’t have. Its side passive radiators also light up, if that matters to you.
Where the Lava wins beyond bass: IP67 dust-and-water resistance against IPX7 water-only, and a materially cleaner low end that doesn’t fall apart at higher volume the way the Boom 2’s does with BassUp engaged.
Buy the Stormbox Lava. For $10 more you get a speaker seven ranking places higher with genuinely deeper bass. Buy the Boom 2 only if the lighter weight or PartyCast pairing specifically matters to you.

Soundcore Boom 2: $89.99 Amazon Bhphotovideo
Pros: Pretty deep bass for the size. Cool lights in the side passive radiators. For the best sound quality use Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ. With the stock tuning, this speaker would rank around #24, due to the boosted bass and rising treble.
Cons: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters. Sound processing issues with inconsistent bass notes that disappear at low levels like the Soundcore Boom and Soundcore Boost, not great for listening at low levels. Quite bass heavy with BassUp turned on, I’d recommend turning it off. A little bit of a bright tuning in the treble, about +5db.

Tribit Stormbox Lava: $100 Amazon Aliexpress
Pros: Fantastic bass extension. Goes deeper than the Boom 2 as seen in the linked video of sound samples. Firmware 2.0.0 is a big improvement in neutrality.
Cons: Quite heavy for the size. Some bass boost way down low. Treble and upper mids have some peaks.
