Short answer: the Soundcore Boom 2, and it isn’t close. It ranks #43 of 120 large speakers, the JBL Xtreme 4 ranks #10, and the Boom 2 costs $209.96 less.
The price and the ranking point the same direction. The Boom 2’s own notes call out pretty deep bass for its size, measured at 47Hz extension, while the Xtreme 4’s notes flag a dip in the upper bass to midrange that our reviewers say cannot be EQ’d out, on top of some bass boost and upper mid/treble boost at high volume. The Xtreme 4’s one clear advantage is a fully stereo pair of 70mm woofers and 19mm tweeters, versus the Boom 2’s single midrange woofer, which means the Boom 2 is only stereo through its two tweeters.
The Xtreme 4’s other real advantage is the removable battery, which the Boom 2 doesn’t have. It’s also slightly deeper in bass than its own predecessor, the Xtreme 3. Beyond that, the Boom 2 actually has lower Bluetooth latency (125ms versus 220ms) and a party mode that scales to 100 speakers, matching the Xtreme 4’s Auracast support.
Everything else matches: both run 24 hours per charge, both charge over USB-C, and both include a companion app with EQ.
Buy the Soundcore Boom 2 unless you specifically need a removable battery or true stereo separation from front to back, since it outranks the Xtreme 4 for a fraction of the price.
Buy the JBL Xtreme 4 if the removable battery or the fully stereo driver layout matters enough to you to justify the higher price.
