Brand: Cadence Sound
#53 Cadence Sound CSX-12 Mark II: $1,299 Discontinued eBay
Same family: the Cadence Sound CSX-15 MKII (larger subwoofer, rated 3.7/5).
Pros: A ported 12 inch subwoofer with punchy home theater bass at a good value, built for chaining two subs together. The 12 inch driver is powered by a 225W RMS (450W peak) amplifier and measures flat from 34 to 154Hz within 3dB. Measured output averages 115.6dB across the bands from 40 to 80Hz, with 119.6dB at 63Hz, which is plenty for a medium to large room. Two units can be daisy chained for more output and smoother bass across seats.
Cons: Output drops to 99.4dB at 25Hz and 85.3dB at 20Hz, so it has little output for the lowest movie effects. At 29kg and 464 x 451 x 464mm it is heavy and takes up real floor space. It is discontinued, so buying means finding one used, and the price was high for a 12 inch ported sub.
