Same family: the JBL PRX908 (smaller model, rated 4/5) and the JBL PRX915 (larger model, rated 3.9/5).

Pros: A versatile, loud 12 inch powered PA speaker with app control, deep onboard processing and enough bass for speech and lighter music. High-quality manufacturer Spinorama data, 132dB claimed peak output, app control and unusually deep onboard processing make this one of the most versatile choices. The measured 54Hz bass extension is useful for speech and lighter music without a subwoofer. Measured bass extension of 54Hz (-3dB).

Cons: Its 6.05 ideal-subwoofer preference score trails the QSC and FBT ProMaxX, with less even sound-power behavior in the supplied data. At 19.5kg it is not especially light, and Bluetooth is for control rather than audio streaming.

Frequency Response

How the JBL PRX912 measures across the audible range. A flatter listening window (the sound arriving straight at you) is more neutral: peaks sound forward or harsh, dips sound recessed. The estimated in-room response adds what a typical room does, and there a gentle, even tilt down toward the treble is ideal. Both curves are shifted so their 300 Hz to 3 kHz average sits at 0 dB.

EQ for a Neutral Response

Flattens the measured listening window from the JBL PRX912's own bass extension up to 16 kHz. Set a preamp of -1.4 dB, then add these filters to any parametric equalizer in the signal path: the speaker's app or DSP if it has parametric EQ, a miniDSP, Equalizer APO or Wavelet. Boosts are kept to 3 dB, and EQ cannot fix how evenly the speaker spreads sound off-axis, which is why some speakers gain more than others. Predicted preference score with this EQ: 4.0, up from 3.6 (6.5 with an ideal subwoofer, up from 6.0). Calculated by Speaker Ranking from the spinorama measurements above.
