Short answer: the Soundcore Boost, if you can still find one. These rank #56 and #4 out of 142 portable speakers, and the Boost costs $60 against $250 for the Ranger despite ranking higher.
Sound quality favors the Boost. Its pros describe a very neutral, good sounding small speaker with quite deep bass for its size, with only a minor DSP quirk that lightens bass at very low volumes. The Ranger’s cons go the other way: its bass is described as thuddy and not as deep as higher ranked speakers.
The Ranger’s advantage is toughness, not tone. Its pros call out an IP67 rating, magnets for mounting it to things, and a build that appears to be quite tough, while its cons flag it as overpriced and heavy for its size. The Boost has no toughness rating in its spec sheet, and it has since been discontinued and is no longer sold new, so buying one now means hunting secondhand or old retailer stock.
Buy the Boost if you can track one down and want the better-sounding, cheaper speaker for casual and indoor use.
Buy the Ranger if you need something rated for outdoor abuse and don’t mind paying a premium and giving up some sound quality for that durability.

The Two Speakers In Full
Turtlebox Ranger: $250.00 Amazon eBay
Pros: Much better frequency response than the other Turtlebox speakers. Has magnets for attaching it to things. Appears to be quite tough
Cons: Bass sounds kind of thuddy and isn’t as deep as higher ranked speakers. Overpriced. Heavy for the size, likely due to the toughness
