Last updated: October 3, 2026

Different classes, so treat this as a step-up-or-not question rather than a head-to-head. The Marshall Middleton ranks #34 of 97 large speakers by sound quality at $211.83; the Marshall Bromley 450 ranks #24 of 44 party speakers by sound quality at $649.95.

Marshall Middleton vs Marshall Bromley 450

The Marshall Middleton is the lighter, tougher choice. Very deep bass for the size/weight. At 4 lbs (1.8 kg) it weighs much less than the Marshall Bromley 450 at 27.1 lbs (12.3 kg). It is rated IPX7 against IP55 for the Marshall Bromley 450. Watch for: 5db dip at 1.7kHz and 6.3kHz.

The Marshall Bromley 450 is the longer-running option. A balanced, warm sound with a flat midrange that keeps vocals and instruments clear, plenty of bass rumble and enough treble for energetic vocals, per RTINGS’ lab tests. It is rated for 40 hours of battery against 20 for the Marshall Middleton. It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Marshall Middleton lacks. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Marshall Middleton lacks. The tradeoff: It is the quietest of its rivals: both the Soundboks Mix and Teufel Rockster Air 2 play louder, and near max volume the bass recedes and the sound gets less composed.

Buy the Marshall Middleton at $211.83 for a large speaker, or the Marshall Bromley 450 at $649.95 for a party speaker instead.

Marshall Middleton ranking card

Newer model: the Marshall Middleton II, ranked higher, rated 4.1/5.

Pros: Very deep bass for the size/weight. Measured bass extension of 39Hz (-10dB).

Cons: 5db dip at 1.7kHz and 6.3kHz. 9kHz treble peak. Not a very smooth frequency response. A lot of Marshall’s added dsp echo which cannot be turned off, very distracting and annoying. It’s like forcing you to listen to your music in an echo chamber. Bass is reasonably deep but artificial sounding and flabby, with no attack and no dynamics. Treble is rolled off.

Marshall Bromley 450 ranking card

Pros: A balanced, warm sound with a flat midrange that keeps vocals and instruments clear, plenty of bass rumble and enough treble for energetic vocals, per RTINGS’ lab tests. Drivers on all four sides keep the tonal balance nearly the same from any angle, and M1M Tech Channel found it more open and airy than the Soundboks Mix and Teufel Rockster Air 2, with deeper bass than both. RTINGS measured 18.8 hours of battery from a swappable LiFePO4 pack shared with the Bromley 750, and it adds IP55 protection, two XLR/6.35mm combo inputs, USB-C audio, Auracast and physical bass and treble knobs.

Cons: It is the quietest of its rivals: both the Soundboks Mix and Teufel Rockster Air 2 play louder, and near max volume the bass recedes and the sound gets less composed. The warm tuning lacks some fine treble detail. There is no graphic EQ, only bass and treble knobs, and its stereo spreads left and right channels around the cabinet, so panned elements can land on the wrong side. At 12.3 kg it has a carry handle but no wheels.
