Short answer: the JBL Flip 6. It ranks #13 of 176 medium speakers by sound quality, rated 4.2/5, at $79.95. The Philips TAS3150 ranks #138, rated 2.6/5, at $30, $49.95 cheaper, which does not close the gap in sound quality.
The JBL Flip 6 is the better-sounding choice. A small, rugged speaker with very neutral sound for its size, an excellent choice for most people. It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Philips TAS3150 lacks. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Philips TAS3150 lacks. The tradeoff: Some slight upper mids emphasis.
The Philips TAS3150 is the longer-running option. A cylindrical waterproof speaker with RGB lights, aux, USB and microSD playback, and stereo pairing. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 12 for the JBL Flip 6. It keeps a wired aux input, which the JBL Flip 6 lacks. The catch: In Lcn Sound Tech’s listening test the midrange dominated, treble stayed muted until about 70% volume, and the bass was dry and punchy rather than deep.
Buy the JBL Flip 6. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $49.95 you would save on the Philips TAS3150 does not close the gap.
