JBL Charge 6 vs Skullcandy Terrain

Last updated: September 2, 2026

These are not really the same size class, and that is the honest framing here. The JBL Charge 6 ranks #11 of 140 medium speakers by sound quality at $199.95; the Skullcandy Terrain ranks #47 of 49 small speakers by sound quality at $49.64.

What the JBL Charge 6 gets right: Seems more neutral than the Charge 5. Flatter frequency response through the mids and treble as the Charge 5 was quite rolled off up high. The catch: Still some boosted bass by default. Mids are recessed. Bright above 2khz.

What the Skullcandy Terrain offers: IPX7 rated with a carry strap. Reasonable battery life across the lineup (14-18 hours depending on model). Set against that: No bass, very rolled off treble. Distortion in the treble. Just doesn’t sound good.

Buy the JBL Charge 6 at $199.95 for a medium speaker, or the Skullcandy Terrain at $49.64 for a small speaker instead.

Skip the Skullcandy Terrain if sound quality matters to you. It ranks near the bottom of the 49 small speakers.

Battery life favors the JBL Charge 6: rated for 24 hours against 14 hours for the Skullcandy Terrain.

Pros: Seems more neutral than the Charge 5. Flatter frequency response through the mids and treble as the Charge 5 was quite rolled off up high. Use this EQ from Joy/Oluv and turn down the lowest bass slider for the best sound quality. Oluv has even more paid EQs specifically for the GG and TL models indoors and outdoors here

Cons: Still some boosted bass by default. Mids are recessed. Bright above 2khz. Quite a V shaped frequency response.
