The case for the Bose S1 Pro+: Extremely compact and light with flexible placement options, and very loud for its size. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Sony GTK-XB72 lacks. The catch: Leans toward a bright sound signature, and its bass bottoms out as the volume rises, so full range music suffers well before maximum loudness.
The Sony GTK-XB72 is the longer-running option. Exceptional sound quality, powerful bass, vibrant multi-colored LED lights. It is rated for 23 hours of battery against 11 for the Bose S1 Pro+. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Bose S1 Pro+ lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Bose S1 Pro+. The catch: No deep bass at all, weird midrange peak, rolled off treble and overall strange tuning.
One note: the Sony GTK-XB72 is discontinued and no longer widely available new.
Buy the Bose S1 Pro+ ($699) for a battery-powered PA speaker; the Sony GTK-XB72 ($349) suits a party speaker instead.
