#9 Sonos Beam (Gen 2): $489.00 Amazon $489.00 eBay

Pros: The Beam fits under smaller TVs yet sounds balanced and clear, with dialogue that stays easy to follow. In a four-bar mid-size comparison it beat a JBL rival on bass, separation and vocals. Trueplay tuning, AirPlay 2 and the option to add a Sonos sub and rears let it grow into a full system.

Cons: Atmos height is simulated rather than fired at the ceiling, so overhead effects are subtle. Deep bass is limited until you add a sub, and the Bose Smart Soundbar sounded more open in the same comparison. There is no Bluetooth or DTS:X.
