Brand: Audiofocus
#72 Audiofocus VENU 12a: $2,890 eBay
Same family: the Audiofocus VENU 8a (smaller model, rated 1.9/5) and the Audiofocus VENU 15a (larger model, rated 2.1/5).
Pros: A light powered 12 inch PA speaker with very wide coverage and four presets for use as a main or monitor. A light 18.5kg plywood cabinet, very broad 110° x 60° coverage and 135dB claimed peak output make it convenient for wide rooms and rental work. Four onboard presets simplify use as a main or monitor. Measured bass extension of 112Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The low-quality vendor Spinorama data is the weakest tonal result in this category: a 1.13 ideal-subwoofer preference score and roughly 102Hz measured bass extension conflict sharply with the claimed 50Hz lower limit. A subwoofer and careful EQ are strongly recommended.
Is the Audiofocus VENU 12a right for you?
Buy it if
- you can use EQ: our neutral preset raises its predicted score by about 1.9.
Skip it if
- you want neutral sound: its measured preference score is 1.1 even with a subwoofer.
- you will not add a subwoofer: bass rolls off below about 112 Hz.
- you want the best value: the higher-rated QSC K12.2 costs about $1,990 less.

Frequency Response
How the Audiofocus VENU 12a measures across the audible range. A flatter listening window (the sound arriving straight at you) is more neutral: peaks sound forward or harsh, dips sound recessed. The estimated in-room response adds what a typical room does, and there a gentle, even tilt down toward the treble is ideal. Both curves are shifted so their 300 Hz to 3 kHz average sits at 0 dB.
Measurement data: spinorama.org, measured by the manufacturer.
EQ for a Neutral Response
Flattens the measured listening window from the Audiofocus VENU 12a's own bass extension up to 16 kHz. Set a preamp of -2.9 dB, then add these filters to any parametric equalizer in the signal path: the speaker's app or DSP if it has parametric EQ, a miniDSP, Equalizer APO or Wavelet. Boosts are kept to 3 dB, and EQ cannot fix how evenly the speaker spreads sound off-axis, which is why some speakers gain more than others. Predicted preference score with this EQ: -0.6, up from -2.5 (3.1 with an ideal subwoofer, up from 1.1). Calculated by Speaker Ranking from the spinorama measurements above.
