RCF ART 712-A MK4 vs Audiofocus VENU 12a

Last updated: September 7, 2026

Short answer: the ART 712-A MK4. It costs far less and its measured response, while unconfirmed, doesn’t carry the outright warning flags the VENU 12a’s own data does. These rank #35 and #36 out of 37 12-inch powered PA speakers, priced at $509 and $2890, a $2381 gap.

The ART 712-A MK4 is an affordable, discontinued RCF. The 17.8kg cabinet combines 129dB claimed peak output, a broad horn and RCF’s FiRPHASE processing in a straightforward package, with measured response extending to roughly 65Hz before the first major roll-off. Its own cons note the low-quality vendor measurement is truncated and can’t produce a reliable preference score, and this discontinued MK4 offers little reason to choose it over the newer ART 712-A MK5 unless the used price is substantially lower.

The VENU 12a is lighter and covers a wider area, but its own measured data is a warning sign. A light 18.5kg plywood cabinet, very broad 110° x 60° coverage and 135dB claimed peak output make it convenient for wide rooms and rental work, with four onboard presets simplifying use as a main or monitor. But its own cons are stark: the low-quality vendor Spinorama data is the weakest tonal result in this category, a 0.74 ideal-subwoofer preference score and roughly 102Hz measured bass extension conflict sharply with the claimed 50Hz lower limit, and a subwoofer and careful EQ are strongly recommended.

Buy the ART 712-A MK4 for a lower price and RCF’s processing, especially if you can find it discounted relative to the current MK5.

Buy the VENU 12a only if the wider 110° x 60° coverage pattern is essential for your room, and budget for a subwoofer and EQ correction given its own measured data.

Skip both if sound quality is the priority. There are better options higher up the 37 12-inch two-way powered pa speakers.
