The mkII is the proven quantity. Medium-quality vendor data shows a 5.16 ideal-subwoofer preference score with 67Hz measured extension, and Yamaha’s FIR-X processing and D-Contour compressor simplify setup. It lacks app control or Bluetooth audio, and its measured preference sits mid-pack for this ranking, but it’s a broadly distributed workhorse with a track record.
The mkIII raises claimed output and adds newer DSP and Bluetooth, but its measurement is unconfirmed. Yamaha bumped claimed peak output to 132dB with refined porting and its newest onboard DSP, while keeping weight light at 32 lbs (14.5 kg) with the familiar 90° x 60° pattern. The catch: the low-quality local data is truncated and cannot produce a preference score, so its tonal advantage over the proven mkII is not yet verified.
What the mkIII adds:
- Bluetooth 5.0 audio streaming and D-Remote control, which the mkII lacks entirely.
- Higher claimed amplifier power, 2000W peak versus the mkII’s 1100W dynamic rating.

Buy the DXR10mkII if you want the confirmed measured result and don’t need Bluetooth or the extra claimed headroom.
Buy the DXR10mkIII if wireless streaming and remote control matter to you, or if you’re willing to bet on Yamaha’s newer engineering ahead of a confirmed measurement.
