Short answer: the Ranger. It ranks #56 out of 142, well ahead of the Flare 2 at #108, and the Flare 2 is no longer sold new.
One note: the Soundcore Flare 2 is discontinued, but it still ranks #108 of 142 medium speakers by sound quality, ahead of most of what is still sold new, so it is worth considering used.
The Flare 2’s cons are specific about why it falls behind: rolled off treble, thuddy bass, and a 360 degree marketing claim that does not hold up since it only fires front and rear rather than truly omnidirectionally. Its own spec confirms this: Omnidirectional is listed as pointing up, not a true 360 design. The Ranger has its own bass complaint too (its cons call the bass thuddy and not as deep as higher ranked speakers), but its pros credit it with a much better frequency response than the other Turtlebox models, which is enough to keep it well ahead of the Flare 2.
Everything else is a tradeoff of size and price. The Ranger costs $170 more than the Flare 2 and adds magnets for mounting plus a tougher build, while the Flare 2 is lighter and was the cheaper buy when it was still available.
Buy the Ranger if you want the better rated, currently available speaker and don’t mind the higher price.
Buy the Flare 2 only if you already own one or find it used; it is discontinued and outranked by the Ranger regardless.
The Soundcore Flare 2 is not a sound-quality pick. It sits near the bottom of the 142 medium speakers; there are better options higher up.
