Turtlebox Ranger vs Sony SRS-XE300

Last updated: September 8, 2026

Short answer: the Ranger. It ranks #56 out of 142, ahead of the XE300 at #95, despite costing $152.29 more.

Sound is where the XE300 falls down. Its cons describe it as muffled sounding with bass that isn’t very deep, hollow sounding overall, and explicitly worse than Sony’s own XB43. Its pros are mostly about convenience features: IP67 water resistance, orientation-aware playback that switches to stereo when laid flat, Party Connect for linking up to 100 speakers, and fast charging that gets roughly 70 minutes of playback from a 10 minute charge.

The Ranger’s complaints are milder. Its cons call the bass thuddy and not as deep as higher ranked speakers, and note it is overpriced and heavy for its size, but its pros credit it with a much better frequency response than the other Turtlebox models and a magnetic mount the XE300 doesn’t have.

Everything else matches: both are IP67 rated for water resistance.

Buy the Ranger if you want the better rated speaker and can live with the higher price and extra weight.

Buy the XE300 only if the orientation-aware stereo trick or Party Connect linking matters more to you than raw sound quality, since its own cons rate it behind Sony’s own XB43.

Battery life favors the Sony SRS-XE300: rated for 24 hours against 12 hours for the Turtlebox Ranger.
