Short answer: the Soundcore Boom 2. It ranks #10 of 77 large speakers by sound quality at $99.99; the JBL Xtreme 2 ranks #44 and costs $149.99, so there is little reason to consider the other one.
What the Soundcore Boom 2 offers: Pretty deep bass for the size. Cool lights in the side passive radiators. For the best sound quality use Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ. With the stock tuning, this speaker would rank around #24, due to the boosted bass and rising treble. Watch for: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters. Sound processing issues with inconsistent bass notes that disappear at low levels like the Soundcore Boom and Soundcore Boost, not great for listening at low levels. Quite bass heavy with BassUp turned on, I’d recommend turning it off. A little bit of a bright tuning in the treble, about +5db.
What the JBL Xtreme 2 offers: Four drivers with refined bass balance, closer to studio monitors than typical portables. IPX7 water-resistant. Amazing real-world battery: ~20 hours at 75dB (vs 15hr claim). USB-A port charges other devices. Optional carry strap. Watch for: External AC power brick for charging. Boosted bass. Treble harsh at high volumes.
Buy the Soundcore Boom 2. It ranks higher for sound quality than the JBL Xtreme 2 and costs less, which settles it without a real tradeoff to make.
If battery life is a priority, the Soundcore Boom 2 is rated for 24 hours versus 15 hours for the JBL Xtreme 2.
