What the ULT Field 3 offers: IP67 protection, 24 hours of battery, an app with a 10-band EQ, Party Connect for up to 100 speakers and USB-C in and out for charging a phone. The tradeoff: it sounds a bit hollow with boosted treble, bass is very weak with ULT off, and turning ULT on disables the custom EQ. It also lost a side-by-side comparison to the JBL Charge 6 despite being the larger speaker.
The case for the Boom 2: pretty deep bass for the size (47Hz at -10dB), 80W of amplification, lights in the side passive radiators and an IPX7 rating. Watch for: a single midrange driver means only the tweeters are stereo, bass notes can disappear at low volume, and it is very bass heavy with BassUp on, so an EQ helps.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 3 at $138 if you want a medium speaker. Buy the Soundcore Boom 2 at $89.99 if you want a large speaker instead.

Cons: Sounds a bit hollow, a bit boosted in the treble. Custom EQ and the ULT bass-boost button can’t be used together - turning on ULT disables the EQ. Bass is very weak with ULT off. Lost to the JBL Charge 6 in a side-by-side comparison despite being the larger speaker.

Pros: Pretty deep bass for the size. Cool lights in the side passive radiators. For the best sound quality use Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ. With the stock tuning, this speaker would rank around #24, due to the boosted bass and rising treble. Measured bass extension of 47Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters. Sound processing issues with inconsistent bass notes that disappear at low levels like the Soundcore Boom and Soundcore Boost, not great for listening at low levels. Quite bass heavy with BassUp turned on, I’d recommend turning it off. A little bit of a bright tuning in the treble, about +5db.
