Short answer: at nearly identical prices, these are built for different rooms. The Onn Medium Party Speaker Gen 2 ranks #45 of 75 boombox speakers at $90, while the Soundcore Boom 2 ranks #10 of 78 large speakers at $99.99, and the sound-quality gap between the two categories is significant.
The Boom 2 is the better-reviewed speaker by a wide margin. Our notes call it pretty deep bass for the size, and note that with EQ correction it competes well above its stock ranking, though out of the box it runs bass-heavy and about 5dB bright in the treble with BassUp best left off. It’s also only a single midrange driver, so true stereo separation only exists in the tweeters.
The Onn’s appeal is entirely about party-hosting features for the money. Our notes call out thunderous bass and LED lights synced to music under $100, along with an aux port, a built-in FM radio with 16 presets, and a microphone input for karaoke or emceeing that the Boom 2 doesn’t have at all. The tradeoff is detail: our notes say it lacks the detail of its own bigger sibling, the Onn Large Party Gen 2, and doesn’t reach as deep on bass.
The two also differ sharply in portability. The Boom 2 weighs 3.7 lbs against the Onn’s 11 lbs, runs on USB-C rather than an AC cord, and includes app-based EQ, which the Onn lacks entirely.
Buy the Soundcore Boom 2 for meaningfully better sound quality and a genuinely portable design, and use a corrective EQ to tame its stock tuning.
Buy the Onn Medium Party Speaker Gen 2 if karaoke, FM radio, and stationary party features matter more to you than refined sound.

Pros: Pretty deep bass for the size. Cool lights in the side passive radiators. For the best sound quality use Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ. With the stock tuning, this speaker would rank around #24, due to the boosted bass and rising treble. Measured bass extension of 47Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters. Sound processing issues with inconsistent bass notes that disappear at low levels like the Soundcore Boom and Soundcore Boost, not great for listening at low levels. Quite bass heavy with BassUp turned on, which is best left off. A little bit of a bright tuning in the treble, about +5db.
