JBL Charge 6 vs Minirig 3

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Short answer: the Minirig 3. It ranks #7 of 136 medium speakers by sound quality at $140; the JBL Charge 6 ranks #11 and costs $199.95, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.

The case for the JBL Charge 6: Seems more neutral than the Charge 5. Flatter frequency response through the mids and treble as the Charge 5 was quite rolled off up high. The tradeoff: Still some boosted bass by default. Mids are recessed. Bright above 2khz.

What the Minirig 3 gets right: Modular, can easily attach a subwoofer. The catch: Not stereo. Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating.

Buy the Minirig 3. It ranks higher for sound quality than the JBL Charge 6 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.

If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Charge 6 at IP68 (extended submersion) holds up far better than the Minirig 3 at Splash resistant (splashing).

Pros: Seems more neutral than the Charge 5. Flatter frequency response through the mids and treble as the Charge 5 was quite rolled off up high. Use this EQ from Joy/Oluv and turn down the lowest bass slider for the best sound quality. Oluv has even more paid EQs specifically for the GG and TL models indoors and outdoors here

Cons: Still some boosted bass by default. Mids are recessed. Bright above 2khz. Quite a V shaped frequency response.
